Cotto at 140 was still green. Pac was still developing. It is a toss up match for me mainly bc Kostya in his prime was pretty lethal. Pac was a beast but he still commits too many mistakes it would definitely be interesting.
The one that beat Hatton? I thought he pretty much developed to all he could. Obviously, he's been learning more since then - Cotto, Marg, etc. But, he's not developed anything since then that'll make that much of a difference to his chances against 'Zu.
Seriously this. Pac was developed as best he could at 130 when he beat Barrera up and fought about as well as he ever will IMO against Marquez in the rematch. Don't let all the "right hook was undeveloped" talk fool you, he was throwing and landing his hook far before he dropped Hatton with it. He just fought lesser fighters/chinnier fighters above 130 so he looked more refined.
I'm bored of Pac's BS as much as the next guy but Pac beats the **** out of him. Pac's punches will start taking their toll and Kostya will only get easier to hit. I got a brutal UD beating or ref stoppage.
i think it was because he couldnt make the weight and the cut was affecting his equilibrium. arum mentioned this prior to his move up to 147 when many people, myself included, were wondering if he could survive against the heavier guys and obviously arum was right as his punch resistance has definately been better at the higher weights.
It is pretty clear that Pac rely mostly on his left. Being labeled as a single handed fighter is pretty much still developing. "Vanilla Ice" which was basically just a right hook, was developed before hatton fight. How he was even able to get as far as he did was mainly due to his lack of fear to pull the trigger and commit to shot. That and his overwhleming workrate.
Are you just being a dense troll? Tsyu beat chavez, roger mayweather, juan laporte, leija, and calvin grove when they were ancient fighters and shot as ****. Like seriously, you want to cry about how Hatton already lost to mayweather, and how cotto had to go from 146 and 145, Tsyu beat old washed up has beens and Oscar de La hoya's leftovers like reulas, gonzalez. Pac beat marco antonio barerra at featherweight, he just beat bradley at welterweight, his wins over cotto and hatton are better than tsyu's entire career. Pac is an all time great, tsyzu is an overrated fighter. Like seriously you sound like an idiot. You want to mention how kostya beat a 40 year old chavez. Pac beat oscar, shane, eric morales, juan manuel marquez. He has more than enough wins that dwarf kostya's **** resume. Like really, you want to make excuses for everyone pac beats , when kostya beat guys that were 5-7 years past thier prime. Cotto, Hatton, Marquez, Bradley, Barrera, Morales, Ledwaba, absoletely **** over kostya garbage ass resume.
I remember Tszyu destroying Mitchell after a long lay off and I thought, wow, great fighter ... then I bought his career and watched him and thought, wow, what a simplistic style this guy has. You watch guys like Floyd, Hagler, Duran, Whitaker, and they could do it all. I watched whole fights where Tszyu just threw a double jab, then two rights, a double jab, then two rights. No variety to his assault, some timing, some toughness, GREAT power, but NOT an ATG kind of fighter. His best prime win is over a guy who HAS NEVER WON A BIG FIGHT except Spinks II, the choker of chokers. I honestly remember thinking Gatti had more variety in his offense than Tszyu, who exhibited poor head movement, bad footwork, but had timing and great power and a good chin. Prime JCC would have eaten him for breakfast.
I agree. Kostya is not an amazing talent. Actually most boxers is str8 up and down. He does have power, durable and great timing.
I really don't understand why people say this, it is a complete and utter myth. If you watch Pacquiao throughout his career, he throws the right hook consistently. It was just that his left hand, which was more developed and thrown with real power was catching peoples eyes. Even the bout just before DLH against Diaz, watch that right hook do damage, throwing it in 2's and 3's. Again, his right hook has always been there, he just became more controlled and patient to use it more effectively.
Trust me, I don't just believe what i hear. I have eyes too. Just bc he use it doesn't mean is effective. You compare to what Floyd can do with both of his hands. Jabs, hooks, check hooks, left uppercut with his lead hand to what Pac does with his right hand. Also Marquez would not be saying that Pac getting more fundementally sound throughout the years will suit him more.
