Not only in the Ams but at Boxing in general . " Cubans , as a people , are a naturally agressive people , most of them seems to live with a perpetual chip on their shoulder and if you add their remarkable habit of keeping their senses under extremely stressfull circumstances then you have the right mix not only for boxing but for any type of contact sports ( martial arts ) , then come the balance and rythm ( footwork ) wich they got through their dancing ( Salsa ) , the rest is all about good training and conditioning wich they get on a daily basis on our boxing academies " - Alcides Sagarra ( Legendary Cuban coach ) . ( Tried to translat it as close as I could , hope it answers your question . ) . Peace .

No matter how many times one explains to them that cubans ALWAYS win their first important titles in their late teens , early twenties , you will always get these envious trolls coming up with the age thing . He probably didn't watch the last Olympics when Robeisy Ramirez won gold at 18 Years old . Now in 10 years time they will acuse Ramirez ( if he doesn't defect ) of STILL beating on kids . Lol . Peace .

At 18 they beat our 18 year olds because Cubans are some damn fine boxers. Then at 22 they beat our 18 year olds again. Then at 26 and so on and so forth. Nobody is discrediting Cuban boxers, just making observations.

They are in there late 20's with hundreds of fights under their belt while fighting 17 year old novices.

Because when other fighters turn professionals, they are still amateurs.

THE BUS HAS LEFT THE STATION re CUBAN AMATEUR BOXERS

We are no longer living in the Seventies, so the greatness of the Cubans
has come down a long way since their best days. In fact watching many
of the Cubans fight in the 2012 Olympics did not ring any bells or have fans
    dancing in the stands.

It is like asking why did the Cubans dominated amateur baseball. The answer is in Communism.

Same as why the Chines are so good in the olympics, or why the USSR were so good in the heydays.

It is their farm system which makes the system work.

    It is really simple -

You pick up a 5-6 years old (younger in cases of gymnastics or any sports involving dexterity, balance) child who has athletic abilities, then place them in a farm, like chickens, and hone their skills until all they can do is that skill. Nevermind that they can only see their parents 2 weeks in a year. All for the glory of the fatherland.

It also helps that they don't actually turn professionals.

It is like how come the USA got dominated in a sport invented by the Americans - Basketball. - the answer is simply that it was a contest between boys and men.

They are more interested in amateur boxing than professions. A lot of amateur Cuban boxers are old in comparison to other countries.

Didn't you notice that Cubans used the age excuse at the last two major championships? "We Have a very young team" The Ukraine have found a brawling style that bothers everyone.

Because they treat amateur boxing the some as non communistic countries treat pro boxing, they don't have amateur fights just to get ready for their pro career, they're pro boxers they just fight under amateur rules

Hrm. Why list all these pan am games?
And... Savon may have won the pan am games at 20 but it's a wee bit more impressive that he won the worlds the year before that, 1986, isn't it?
