Sergio's current net worth is estimated a $5 Million. He's done well since the Pavlik fight. $1.4 mill for Chavez $1.5 mill for Barker $1.2 mill for Dizinzurik He ain't exactly livin' on Top Ramen and turkey dogs! When I stop and consider the fact that there are good fighters out there who work their asses off, and never come close to six figures, it's pretty hard to feel sorry for a guy who routinely earns well over seven figures.
I don't either. He could have been worked his way into bigger pay days by taking out the best available opposition at his weight class. Yet after Pavlik, he has fought Williams, Dzinziruk, Barker, Macklin, and Chavez Jr. For a pound for pound fighter, that is one of the worst resumes of recent opposition in recent history. Williams, and Dzinziruk, were not middleweights. Barker, wasn't even a legit top ten guy. Maclin was ok, but Chavez Jr, isn't that good, as evidence, by his best opponents prior to Martinez being Rubio, and Andy Lee. Martinez hasn't done **** recently except dodge the best middleweight opposition. Call out midget Pacquiao, but then refuse to even consider fighting Andre Ward. Martinez is a huge hypocrite.
:rofl Ward has said himself a Martinez bout is unrealistic. What bigger paydays? Chavez jr was his biggest pay at the weight class and it was still pretty much what he already had made. You give Martinez **** because Dzin and PDub aren't middles but neither is Martinez. Awful post. atsch
Martinez has gotten 1 million + repeatedly to fight guys who were smaller, (Williams and Dzinziruk) or just not that good. Barker and Chavez. Further, he comes off as being a big coward, he calls Manny Pacquiao out, who is 13 pounds smaller than the weight he fights at, yet refuses to go up 8 pounds to face Andre Ward.
Martinez was on the record saying he couldn't make 154 anymore, because he had added muscle to face Kelly Pavlik. Hence the reason the Williams rematch was at a catch weight, instead of the 154 pound limit, Martinez camp claimed he wouldn't be able to make the weight. Martinez is a middleweight. All the he is too small garbage is laughable. Going further, Martinez weighed in at a 30 day weigh in at 176. Meaning, he walks around well above 180 pounds. Get out of here with that bull**** turbo. At 5'10, and a solid build, Martinez isn't a small middleweight. He is an average sized one.
Who gives a **** what they walk around at? Hatton walked around at 180+ for junior welterweight fights. Does that make him a natural middleweight? Martinez was brought in last minute for Pavlik, that is NOT why he moved up to fight Pavlik at all, Pavlik was supposed to fight Williams but it fell through so Martinez just had to cut less to fight him. Martinez has been on record saying he could make 154 plenty of times. You can't honestly believe he can't :think
Who has he fought?? JC jnr!!! A protected fighter Pavlik at a time when he was not in the right place mentaly and a revenge win over Williams Thats IT.. Dipset is right he should clean up his division before he deserves a pay day. Just like Canelo should
Turb that is the problem. he flip flops more than Gore and Romney. He can't do something when it isn't advantageous to him. He can do something when it will be an advantage. You are acting like that ball gobbling writer on the other site, defending Martinez's hypocricy. Make me post that video on here where he is ducking Pirog also.
Turbo you give Pac **** and he is not a WW or a LMW Martinez career has been based around the WW, LMW and MW division. The last decade at the latter 2. There are fighters at LMW with good records eg Cotto, PBF, Canelo, Kirkland At MW there Geale, Strum, Golovkin. Which are in his division And ONE step up SMW you have Ward, Froch, Dirrell and George Groves who although has only 15 bouts will still be a good name on Martinez list
Ortiz... has one fight at welter, beating berto : Awesome opponent! Payday! Bradley... number 1 at 140 (although avoided khan to remain number 1) beat alexander n peterson... less then a handful of fights at welter : Payday for him hell ya. Margarito, no significant win in recent fight, gets payday Mayorga, hadn't won a significant fight in years and not a ranked fighter anymore : payday acceptable! Trout with no signature win to date against a highly ranked fighter : happy payday and exposure for you! Martinez ... longest reigning middleweight champ since hopkins, p4p top 5 in the world, but nahhh... this guy hasn't done enough.. atsch And I'm not talking about a mayweather fight, I'm sick of hearing floyds scared n shook fans cry about how martinez is 'too big' lol... I'm talking about getting paydays against cotto and canelo. Martinez is looong overdue for his shot at an established boxing star and everything that comes with that.
There is a career high payday waiting for Martinez anytime he is willing to step up. Right or wrong, KP feels very strongly that he lost to Martinez for all the wrong reasons. If Sergio would agree to 165, Pavlik would give him 70%, and agree not to weigh anymore than he did at fight time for the first fight. Obviously, that would not be Pac or Mayweather type money, but it would most certainly net Sergio a career high payday. Martinez won't even discuss the idea.
Martinez wants to fight at 154 for Mayweather or Pacman, yet he claimed he couldn't make 154 anymore for Williams in the rematch. Pac fights at 147. That is a 13 pound difference in divisions. 168 is only 8 pounds difference, Martinez claims he is too small. Yet calls Pac a coward and all that ra ra. Martinez is a huge hypocrite. Just calling it like it is.
