It's mathematically possible since he's had success against southpaws and KO'd an average(at best) one not too long ago... but highly doubtful.

    The facts:

    1) A beyond shot Ouma hurt him badly. Watch Vanes' expression after the decision was read. Priceless...

    2) Greene landed his southpaw jab and straight left at will.

    3) Lara is considerably better than these two.

The weigh-in basically sealed it for me. Lara looked like he's supremely confident and conditioned while Vanes looked gaunt and nervous.

The fact that Ouma was featherfisted saved Vanes' chin about 10 times in that fight.

Vanes got a lot of hype on here a few years ago, and I was in on it. After the Ouma fight, I lost interest in him. Unless he's improved an awful lot in many ways, Lara will handle him with relative easy.

He hugged and rubbed his way to an ugly draw?! What the **** are you talking about? Sure, Carlos used some quick, tactical clinching in that fight, but it sure wasnt the Kirkland fight. Carlos boxed great that night. Used angles, coming in and out, working the body and head...all off a two year layoff. You are gonna use a bad camp excuse for Lara against a guy who hadnt fought in two years?
According to Compubox, Molina out landed Lara 142 to 103. Guess what? Compubox doesnt count clinches as punches landed. Carlos out landed that Cuban "legend" in 8 out of the ten rounds. No wonder Lara's people wanted no part of a rematch. When they demanded a rematch with Paul Williams, I liked how Williams promoter said "Give Molina a rematch first, then maybe we'll talk". That was some truth right there.
Best part is, compare there records since they fought each other. Who has been facing the better competition? Thats right. Its pretty clear who the better man is. You're boy is trying to snake around Molina and pretend he doesnt exist so he can snag a paper title, all the while knowing he IS NOT the best fighter in the division, or even the best fighter on his own record :deal

Vanes is a counter puncher, he'll break Lara down and win on points.

I had the opportunity to speak with Freddy Hernandez and he said Lara is weak in the body and he will lose when he faces a solid body puncher. I am in no way a fan of either fighter but I think Vanes may have a chance though not a very big one to pull off an upset.

I got Lara SD. Wouldnt at all be surprised if Vanes gets the SD though.

This should be a good fight and I lean towards Lara by decision.

Why do people keep bringing up the Ouma fight? Who beats Ouma convincingly? Hell GGG was bouncing shots off of Ouma's friggin skull for like ten rounds and Ouma wouldn't go down.

I would bet good hard-earned money than Ouma's chin is way better than Lara's chin.

It should be obvious why people bring up the Ouma fight. He and Lara are both southpaws. Ouma was war weary and clearly past it yet he almost knocked Vanes out and still should have gotten the decision IMO.

Even if you disregard this fight, he also struggled with Greene(another southpaw).

I just can't see a scenario where Vanes can win legitimately and I don't see enough incentive for a robbery. Sure he's got height and the overhand right but he fights wide open and you just can't do that against someone like Lara...unless you have KO power(Martirosyan doesn't).
