Has Wladimir ever fought and beat a fighter you would consider to be ELITE; not necessarily an ATG? What do you think, ESB?
Elite to me are top 10 guys. So obviously yes, he's beaten MANY elites. ATGs are generally guys who would be top 10s in any era, so in that, he's beaten about 5 of em.
By historical standards, he's not beaten a great opponent. There's no debating that. His beat opponent, Byrd, was never close to being a great fighter. He's beaten elite fighters of today but that isn't saying much.
chronological: haye chagaev thompson 1 ibragimov brock byrd 2 peter 1 mccline byrd 1 and these will get on his resume too: povetkin pulev price/fury so he will have beaten a lot of elite fighters. imo haye and byrd would be top 5 contenders in every era. chagaev, ibragimov, peter 1, brock and mccline top 10 in almost every era yeah he is clearly an atg!!!
He beat plenty of guys who were top 5 in the world fighters. Its hard to define "elite" Ibragimov, Chagaev,Haye,Byrd,Peter were all highly ranked fighters at the time and had accomplished quite a bit. I mean, he doesnt really fight bums, its just that there isnt a great depth of fighters out there these days. Between himself and his bro, they've pretty much beaten everyone there was to beat over the past decade.
It depends on what you consider "elite" to be. If you're talking about today's standards, he's fought elite opponents. However, none of them have had elite level skill. He's never beaten a great fighter. I'm not sure I'd consider Byrd 'very good' either, and he's Wlad's best win.
No elite level boxers imo. This era has been really weak compared to others so he hasn't been able to get that Marquee win he would need to really cap his career off but he has cleaned out the division and beaten everyone he could in his peak years. Unfortunately the only active boxer from his era that could have gave him the Marquee victory happened to be his brother.
I dont know your definition of elite, but he has beaten everyone put in from of him the last 8 years and has firmly established himself as the best heavyweight in the world, a hall of famer, and an ATG. All the **** talking and whining in the world isnt gonna change it. You all are just gonna have to learn to deal with that. Little guys, big guys, quick guys, strong guys, undefeated guys, south paws...yep, he's beating them all
he has a better overall record at heavyweight. comparing them as boxers in ahead to head fashion and taking Hayes cruiserweight years into account then he might squeeze it but at heavy Byrd is higher than Haye thus far imo.
Haye never did anything at HW. Old Ruiz, terrible Audley, terrible Tomasz Bonin,Old slow no power Valuev. Haye's best win was over Chisora who was coming off of 3 hard fights with huge punchers and Haye was coming off a year vacation. Haye's wins are all bad.
No. Wlad has yet to beat one guy who ten years from now boxing fans will look back and say "he was a hell of a fighter."
