There are striking similarities between both fighters. Both looked sensational for the majority of their careers. Both had some sickening body shots. Both had radical fan bases. But when the time came to step up to the elite level of the sport... Unfortunately both fighters were knocked. Being that Bute seems determined to get his career on track, I fear he will continue to follow the path of Hatton. He will have a few more comeback fights, and will actually look quite good in some of them. People will begin to believe once more, but when he steps up again, the result will be the same. It's very sad when such a thing happens to fighters with such dedicated fan bases. I hope Bute doesn't have such a sad ending as he tries to reach the top of the sport once more. What do you think, ESB?
Ricky Hatton's elite though wasn't just the top boxers in his weight class, but the Floyd was rated P4P the best in the sport and seem goes for Pacquiao.
Both were quite unproven at the top level of the sport. Both stepped up to P4P level fighters (not sure what Froch was at the Bute fight). Both got knocked out of the top level of the sport. Tragic comparison indeed.
not a fan of Hatton by any means.. But Zoo was a lot better then anybody Bute fought.. Including Carl Froch
Ricky lost to 2 of the best fighters of recent times at any weight. Much as I like Froch losing to him is not the same.
He still won the WBA, IBF and Ring Titles at 140 lbs, agree he wasted time with the WBU title but he beat the Ring Rank number 1 140 lbs fighter for the IBF and Ring title and then won the WBA in his next fight. He then went undefeated at 140 lbs for years holding the Ring Title until Pacquiao the best fighter in any weight class beat him.
Yeah. An old, shot, Kosta who was coming off a 2 year lay off was better than Carl Froch... yeaaaaahhhhh
He fought and KO'd Sharmba Mitchell 6/11/04 and fought Ricky Hatton on the 4/6/05 that isn't 2 years.
Not even close. Ricky lost to the two best of their generation and top of the P4P list. Much as I'm a big fan of the Cobra, losing brutally to him doesn't compare to Hatton's losses. Always felt Ricky was a tad overrated but it's a huge insult and way off the mark to compare him to a hype job like Bute. You did a great thread recently Slyk, shame you're shitting on it with this.
