Matt Skelton witnessed the first raindrop fall from the sky, the first oak Tree grow from the first acorn.

Some say matt Skelton knows what came first, the chicken or the egg

Thats good to hear mate :D:good

    I'm in the 48 and 49 bracket.

I'm going to look through some old issues of Boxing Monthly, there's got to be interviews with him in there from the mid-noughties, he was pretty big then.

I'll get to the bottom of this!

Its a shame he's not still in prison, if he was I could have found out what his age was that way ;)

    Right I've done some research!

I've looked through some old editions of Boxing Monthly and have found a review of his fight for the British title against Keith Long.

The edition in question is January 2005, but the fight took place on 19th November 2004.

The article gives Matt Skelton's age as 37, so that makes him now 45.

It also states that he had only been boxing professionally for just over two years at that stage.

I can understand why the majority of us are doubtful of his claims in respect to his age, but all I will say is that if he is lying about his age he has been lying about it from the start!

Although I was initially suspicious I am now going to go with the age of 45.:D

    :bbb

On a side note it was interesting to see Skeltons weight of 259 lbs in the fight against Long, he was 232 lbs in his last fight, so the fact that he is currently two stone lighter than in the past deserves some credit in my opinion.

Also it is interesting to look at the start of his career, and his level of activity and opposition.

The fight against Long was his 15th, thats 15 fights in his first two years and if you look at his opposition there are some impressive domestic names for someone so inexperienced.

He beat Julius Francis on points for the English Heavyweight title in his 12th contest, and he knocked out Michael Sprott in the 12th round for the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight titles in just his 13th fight.

Regardless of issues regarding his age now Matt Skelton has had an interesting career and I do remember the excitment he generated when he first came on the scene.:bbb

Thanks for confirming the age, if only you could have helped us all earlier. :hi:

I found his fights around 2004 to 2007 pretty good, they gave me some interesting nights of boxing.

You clearly didn't enjoy them, thats your opinion and of course you are entitled to it.

I disagree that he has had a 'lucky' career, I'm pretty sure he has put alot of hard work and dedication into his achievements.

I agree that the heavyweight division was not at its best, but it was still pretty interesting because at least all the domestic heavyweights fought each other, something that is lacking from the division at the moment. :bbb
