Derreck chisora just announced his retirement on Facebook as a time line event

What Facebook is this? I've had a look on the Facebook pages and his twitter and don't see anything.

I very much doubt that he's going to retire, what else is he going to do? FW was banging on in the summer that Chisora needs to fight regularly because he has no other source of income.

I believe we'll see him back next year on BoxNation against some no-mark.

 

I'd like to see him fight Sherman Williams, decent tune up fight.

 

He seems to enjoy fame too much tbf to retire just yet.

Is this even on an official, verified facebook page?

I assume if it is genuine it is still a Haye-esque bargaining tactic for a fight.

 

I'd be gutted if he retired, Haye/Chisora was my first Chisora fight and i'd of liked to follow him around the world! He made a lot of fans over the Vitali/Haye fights and I think he's only got some good money to look forward too.

He has more twitter followers than Facebook so surly if he was going to retire he'd tell twitter first, he's always on twitter nowadays so it doesn't add up. Maybe one of his mates took his phone and it's a wind up, one of the BBK lot?

He has too much to gain.

 

A million is nowhere enough to retire on and live a decent lifestyle. A nice apartment is £250k (double or triple that if you live in London) a car around £50k. Assuming you live another 35 years that leaves you £20k per annum, the approximate salary of a McDonalds manager. That is certainly not enough to get you two holidays a year, pay your apartments service charges and maintenance, put petrol in your motor, and eat out every night (unless you eat in McDonalds too!) as well as the usual cost of living. You have to take into account that interest rates at the bank are lower than the rate of inflation so your money is worth less every year. If you invest it in property then the rental profits are taxable too and at some stage you may need to replace that car or buy something else!

Plus, Chisora "only" got £500k for his fight with Haye and £200k for the Vitali fight, all taxable at 50% and not taking into account the money he was fined for various incidents and the £25k he lost in the bet to Haye which he gave to charity.

Chisora would need another ten fights to make enough money to retire and live what I consider to be a decent life, that's why this retirement announcement is clearly bollocks!

 

Lets be honest, you can make a very good living by hitting the “celebrity” circuit these days. Its full of ****s, but probably a lot easier than getting punched in the face.

 

He won't retire, there's plenty of money still to be made.

 

Maybe they are gonna parachute him into the Jungle to link up with Haye.....

 

I think we have different ideas about what is a decent lifestyle. I'm a single guy, with no family. A one bedroom apartment in the city centre would do me just fine. Nothing too fancy, but not some dirty crack den either. Just a nice, slick, clean apartment to bring girls back to. I can rent a nice one for around £600 a month, including bills, although you are right about it being a lot more expensive in London. The 250k apartment? I would buy one and live off the rent money. a 50k car is not needed. A 20k one would do me fine. If you're a single man, and have no family to provide for, you''d be laughing like a king.

Obviously I would buy, rather than rent, but just as an example, if I was renting an apartment that would cost me around £600 a month including bills, then what more would I need? I would just like to get drunk at the weekends, pay for petrol, and eating out. Nothing that fancy, I'm not talking about drinking fine champagne every night and having maids. To me this is a decent lifestyle, and would not cost me that much. Give me £2000 a month in rental income and I'm good. A few times a year extra expenses would crop up, like car insurance, tax, holidays etc, but I think my rental income would cover it easily, even after tax.

My mate rents a city centre apartment with great views, which after bills and council tax costs him around £600. He goes out at weekends to get drunk, has just been on a holiday to the far east, and can afford nice clothes, maintain his car etc. he's only on around 24k a year. He told me he doesn't save much money, but he's not struggling either. I'm sure if I had a million I could retire and live a better lifestyle than my mate.

edit: I didn't know Chisora only got 500k for the Haye fight though. Would've thought it would be more. In this case, he will need to do something else after boxing if he's retiring.

 

Fair enough mate I think my version of finance is skewed having grown up and lived in London my entire life, £1m isn't much. For £600 a month you'd be lucky to get a room in a flat share in zone 3 let alone a whole city centre apartment!

It does amaze me how broke a lot of fighters are though having seemed to earn some decent coin in their time, Kevin Mitchell is a good example of someone who has wasted hundreds of thousands on rubbish and he'll live to regret it in time.

 

Dumb if he does. Gave Vitali his best fight and made Haye, imo, look bad before the KO happened.
