That's good stuff. I've seen it before. Speaking "check hook" there is no active fighter that I know of who can match Jersey Joe.
You can slip outside of the right towards your left, and come back with a left to the body, or to the head. (Tyson-Spinks) You can roll it on the shoulder or block it with a high left hand and come back with a straight right of your own. (Mayweather-De La Hoya) You can duck downwards and come back up with a right uppercut to the head or body. (Toney-Jirov) You can lean backwards and make them reach to counter over the top with a check-hook (Robinson-Fullmer (?)) You can turn your upperbody leftwards, slipping outside of the right hand, while landing your own straight simultaneously. (Mosley-Vargas) You can parry it downwards hard and step in with a left hook up top (Marquez-Barrera) You can roll with it towards the inside while timing a left hook counter over it (Donaire-Montiel) You can duck down and land a straight right to the body with your left hand high (Morales-Barrera)
how can your opponent hit you with the right when you shoot your left hook over his right arm. You have to time your opponent's right hand and as it is coming to you. You shoot your left hook over his arm serve two things. 1) you redirect his punch down and away from your chin and he is out of position. Make sure you practice ur form as u throw ur left hook with ur right hand on ur chin to avoid being countered urself. 2) You can take a step back or slip to make the right adjustment. Be aware of ur distance and counter accordingly. It will not be easy and don't expect to counter his right everytime. Watch for ur opponents patterns.
My first instinct would be to slip to the left with a left hook/45 to the body, there were clips of Barrera practicing a right to the body while slipping to the left. The simultaneous shots tend to be more potent
slip to the outside? i thought it was slipping to the inside to land the left hook to the body. :huh im probably wrong
That works too. Slipping inside while throwing a left downstairs is more of a one-step counter. What BBall is talking about is more of a two step process; slip to the outside, torque your body leftward, and use it to pivot back the other way into a left hook to the body with the head outside of both arms.
great video with young David Lemieux [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8bDoFCsg0o&feature=watch-vrec[/ame]
