Why is there so many in this thread seemingly talking like Ward didn't already beat the snot out of Froch? :think

Utterly dominated him. Things that have happened cannot just be wished away. Froch is a great fighter, and Ward is and always will be greater. That's just how it is. Sorry, Froch fans. :conf

OK, let me re-phrase what I meant. Wards management should have said to Dawson we need 12 months then we will move to 175 and fight for your 175 belts. Who else will he fight there? Dawson is the lineal champ. Cloud is a joke and lost his last fight, Hopkins lost to Dawson and said he wouldn't fight Ward and Pascal is neither here nor there.

Don't you think that we would all be hyped for Wards 175 debut against Dawson in a years time if he fought Kessler in a rematch or the Dirrell brothers or whooped Froch again, then moved up? Now he is stuck in a corner fighting an alcoholic.

Froch has KO'd the only other legitimate challenger in the division to Wards no.1 status, I think a rematch is viable on that basis - mores than Pavlik.

Honestly, I think Ward neutralises and beats Froch anywhere, but I wouldn't mind seeing the rematch now at all. All signs point towards it simply being the level of competition, but Froch has looked sensational in his last two fights, better than I've ever seen him. Ward beating down Froch again- except this time in his hometown- would be way more impressive than beating up a past it Pavlik or another weight drained Light-Heavyweight in my opinion.

by what bizarre criterion of greatness? One that ignores the actual fight that occurred between the two?

This is a set of criteria that is compatible with being fully delusional, I suppose?

looking at how Froch sat back after scoring on Kessler a couple of times, and how discouraged he looked against Ward past the halfpoint... seems like hometown motivation gives him a boost.

McCracken would make a couple of changes to Froch's training, too... id be interested to see the rematch in Nottingham.

on the other hand, however impossible these fights are for 2013, Froch-Stevenson and Ward-Golovkin would be awesome.

One quick question to clarify things Jeff, ignore 'miles travelled', if Froch fights Ward in London (Froch is from Nottingham), then that's a neutral venue right?

    Yep.

I'd like to see the rematch because, as a boxing fan, it's a no lose situation. We get a p4p talent taking on one of the top guys in his division, in one of the most hostile atmospheres around, in a fight where we get either a shock upset or a top fighter cementing his credentials by shutting up his few remaining critics.

I do find it amusing that in the current climate where most of the top fighters avoid each other like the plague people are turning their noses up at a fight between the two top guys in the division.

I'd sooner see champion vs titlist in a rematch both guys are desperate to win than see champion vs someone just turning up to be beaten.

Saying all that there's absolutely no obligation for Ward to give Froch a rematch in Nottingham.

To be fair, the rematch would have to be in, oh I don't know (let me refer to a map) -- Bristol. Isn't that some sort of seaside resort? Or it once was.

The Ward-Froch fight was in Atlantic City -- do you recall witnessing hordes of raucous and wild-eyed Andre Ward fans in screaming and spitting all over the place in the stands? I don't either.

can you speculate as to the ratio of Ward to Froch fans at their fight in Atlantic City?

I don't recall a boisterous Ward crowd, do you?

Was the deafening noise distracting Carl? The Ward chants, the sing-song from the rafters ("There is only one Andre Ward ...") and so forth?

It pretty much comes down to this. If Ward goes to Nottingham and dominates Froch again, it would cement his status as a P4P king, and would likely be his most impressive win yet, considering the circumstances. NEVER underestimate hometown advantage.

how does that even relate to what i posted? i don't give two craps about the Atlantic City fight, if Ward beats Froch in Nottingham it's a massive accomplishment because of the so called aura surrounding Froch when he fights there... that's all there is to it.

As has been pointed out many times, Ward did not fight Froch in his home town, Oakland.

Exactly - if there was a big opponent out there for him to face who his critics claim he's ducking then I'd want to see that fight. But he's beat everyone to beat, including the top guy in the division above, and the only question mark his critics have is about his travelling.
