Why are American HW fans so obsessed with unskilled power punchers?

Hope is not lost for the HW division in the US. There are a number of terrific skilled prospects who pose a real threat at world level. Malik Scott, Bryant Jennings, Tor Hamer are all very skilled fighters who could go all the way. And Jon Banks showed yesterday that he's a classy fighter too.

Yet venture onto any boxing forum and all you ever see are thread titles like this:

"Is Seth Mitchell The Next Great Heavyweight?"
    "How Good Is Deontay Wilder?"

Anyone who has ever had the misfortune of watching these two fight will realise that any fighter in the top 30, let alone the Klitschkos, would ****ing annihilate them. I see Mitchell as a far superior fighter to Wilder yet he lasted 2 rounds against feather-fisted Banks. Wilder will get sparked out cold as soon as he gets in with a live body (Kelvin Price is one and will beat him IMO).

Yet every time someone mentions Malik Scott on here, a fighter who skills-wise is light years ahead of these two bums, the idiots come out on here calling him boring and whining on about his lack of power. This sums up everything that is wrong with the American attitude to the HW division and why Europe is going to dominate the division for the next 20 years at least.

Watch some fights, use your brain and realise that a well-schooled boxer beats a crude ex-footballer every time.

Because people always say they're boxing fans but in reality they don't look at boxing skill as much as they look at mindless slugging qualities.

When a slugger gets outboxed and exposed the horror is always the same.

    Kinda obvious I guess...

Polls here have shown that fans rather see a big puncher as HW as a technical (also called boring) fighter.
And the 2nd huge reaon is that it looks like that only a big puncher has a chance to beat the current champ, it's much harder to beat Wlad on points.

Wilder is a much better boxer than Mitchell...Wilder also has better physical tools for boxing, imo.

Malik needs to get busier. He can't quit moving forward. He's what 31/32. Finally back in the top 40. He needs another quick fight to get his name being talked about.

I agree that Malik has what it takes to make it into the top 10, but he's gotta stay active, even if it means taking a few low paydays vs the likes of Gavern. Isn't that Monsour out of the joint again. Im sure he's looking for a fight.
He'd be right up Scott's alley.
Actually, Lief Larsen would as well.
I'd love to see OG Malik starch the kiddie fiddler.:thumbsup

Why are American HW fans so obsessed with unskilled power punchers?

Because they want to see the next fantasy Tyson KO Wlad and the other Euros that are dominating the HW div.

Tyson did have top skills when young, but even a young MT wouldn't be universal champ today - maybe holding one of the belts. :tong

Right now Malik Scott is irrelevant. He'll remain so until he steps up. Given his age and number of fights, his body of work is a joke.

American fans love the KO fast and brutal. Wladimir typically gets the KO in his fights, but he usually breaks his opponent down first and stops them in the later rounds.
