After seeing Broner calling out Burns and then immediately State that he wouldn't fight him in the UK cause he'd get robbed it has got me thinking what fights have ended in such a controversial decision that Broner would assume he'd get robbed. of the top of my head i can only think of Dirrel V Froch. But its a bit unjust Britain having this reputation over one fight.
That wasn't really a robbery. It was a close fight that arguably should have gone to Dirrell based on cleaner punching but it could have gone the other way and it did. Mainly because Dirrell acted like a ***** the whole fight and used some pretty pathetic tactics to avoid getting hit. Other than that robberies happen quite often - but usually not so much on big fights. De Gale's last fight was WAY too wide and was a ridiculous score card even though the decision was probably correct. I can't think of that many off the top of my head. Britain is no where near as bad as Germany. That **** is plain evil.
Dirrell didn't get robbed - To win the title, you have to take it to the champ. Dirrell's tactics cost him, he allowed himself to get outworked and refused to engage. Ottke-Reid, that's a robbery Froch-Dirrell, that was a close fight where the champ rightly got the decision
Brits usually get their jaws shattered so the opportunity to rob the foreign fighter is rare. Premature stoppages are common in the UK, however.
Not a straight up robbery, but I had Dirrell soundly beating Froch. Same type of deal as Rios-Abril, I guess. Not a robbery, but Hatton got some help with his shoelaces vs Lazcano. I've seen a ton of EBU/Commonwealth level fights where the British fighter got massively wide scores in a fight that arguably could have gone either way. Barker-Belghecham, Cleverly-Mohammedi, Sexton-Bayaar, etc. Too lazy to go through the memory banks, but there have been plenty. There haven't been as many title fights along those lines simply because there haven't been that many instances of UK fighters making solid defenses at home over the past decade or so. Not to mention that a few UK referees (John Ian Lewis being the biggest offender) have made it a habit to stop a fight against the foreigner when the fight has no business being stopped. I'm not saying it's any worse in the UK than elsewhere though.
nothing compared to what happens in the States, PDL v Broner Matheyese vs Judah & Alexander Kotelnik vs Alexander Martinez vs Williams Campilo vs Cloud just to mention a few in the past 2 years or so.... If the best you can do is Dirrell vs Froch then dont bother mentioning it cause that is not even a robbery.
so who was the last British fighter to get his jaw shattered on British soil preventing a British robbery.
