There was only ONE title during that time A controversial 1 round KO that has been believed to be a fix that was quickly avenged anyway against 3 losses against complete journeymen? Sanders was very talented but was not a full time boxer and way past his best fighting days ... he also took the fight on short notice and was a 4 round fighter at best... Puritty is the definition of a journeyman ... other than being extremely durable he had no real skill or talent ... just a big, strong robust guy who could take punishment and dish some out .. very crude and raw Brewster was decent and had good power but a B level fighter ... Wlad ducked him until he was literally fighting on a single eye and had been inactive for over a year, spending mos of his time in the hospital Wlad only avenged one of his losses ... and when Brewster was pretty much done as a major threat ... and he lost to Brewster with Steward in his corner, so much for him being unbeatable with Steward or post-Steward
Sanders didn't even box whole rounds, it were just some short bursts in rounds... If Briggs survives the short bursts he KOs Sanders.
funny you say that about Briggs. That "top class fighter" had over 50 fights in his career....i propose the BRIGGS CHALLENGE.. This content is protected besides the white wolf who he was losing on every card until the last second KO happened..oh and also besides george foreman who was 48 years old and ran from him for 12 rounds being boo'd out the ring and winning a decision no one thought he won. so besides 48 year old foreman, and 21 fight veteran white wolf, who did Briggs ever beat in the top 10? answer? no one.... :deal
I don't really know, he was a sprinter. It is possible he just never had the muscle fibres to have great stamina. He could fight with any heavyweight from any era ever on equal level(for like 20 or 30 seconds lol)... provived he hadn't gassed yet, he was fast, he was a southpaw, he was ugly, he was mean, and he had power. But he didn't even had the stamina to last a full active round.
Wasn't Wlad drugged in of those fights? Atleast except for Sanders he was totally gassed in both fights, which is stupid but not something that hasn't been fixed.
:deal that's why I think older Briggs would beat Sanders and young Briggs would lose. Sanders would get tired of hitting that huge mofo who doesn't quit. Young Briggs was more fragile, was down even from mediocre fighters like Wilson.
He had an extreme blood sugar level after one of those fights and got hospitalized, I forgot which... And you're reading me wrong, if "wlad losses so he's drugged" is what I implied I would have said he was drugged 3 times... ... Brewster, thanks.
prime or entire career Shannon Briggs 2 biggest wins are 1) 48 year old george foreman (who stalked briggs the entire fight) 2) the white wolf 23-1 that pretty much says it all over 57 fights and the only 2 guys you beat, and most everyone think he lost to foreman, he was behind on every card up until his KO to sergei. he couldnt beat frans botha, short barney rubble ibragimov pitched a shut out against his big ass , and even lost to jameel mccline....
Outside of having his Bredis Prescott-Khan moment against Wlad, who did Sanders ever beat? I dont care how many cards he was losing to the "white wolf" on. He still beat him. Thats how KO's work, also it was his 25th fight, not his 21st.
How established was Lewis when he got dropped like a sack of potatoes for a 10 count by that "Bum" Rahman? Ol' Iron Mike was how many fights in when he got schooled and stopped by the atg Douglas??
To be fair Douglas just wasn't really consistent, even during the Tyson fight he lost focus until he got hit by that uppercut. His style was totally wrong for Tyson anyway and he had a strong enough jab and uppercut to always get Tyson.
