the same thing that any other fighter would need to do to be an ATG.

Just keep winning, no matter how ugly. He only has 26 fights thus far. Let him add 10 more wins against top opposition, heck even with a loss sprinkled in between and he'll still go down as a superhero.

Rule super middleweight for a few more years, then clean house at light heavyweight.

Ward still has a way to go yet, he is a well ranked SMW, but not an ATG overall. I agree with what most people are saying right now, he needs to go to 175 and challenge Dawson on Dawson's turf when Dawson is a disgraceful shell of himself. Then he needs to unify LHW by taking on cleverly although that might be a step too far. As for SMW he can fight Froch and Kessler again but if he is able to be George Groves that would be a huge achievement for him, a fighter that is a leftover of a previous generation. Win a belt or two at LHW the first one outside of Oakland, defend them and then go back to 168 and take on and beat Groves would put him in as an ATG although Groves could prove too much as could Cleverly. But if you want to be great you have to take risks

    Excellent post moneypaysbills :good

I too wonder if Ward will be willing to face Cleverly or Groves? He avoided Bute and took the easy way out against Dawson by bringing down to 168 to eliminate any threat of a competitive fight.

By the way, how do you think Cleverly would do against Dawson pal?

Keep winning. He's already building a unique legacy of his own.

    Good post and exactly that.
There arent many good fighters. Wards best win was unwell, double vision suffering rusty Kessler who has been exposed by the old previous champ who was past his best. Thats Wards best win. There really isnt much around.
Jones had opportunities but didnt get/make the fights Michalczewski, Eubank, Benn, Tiozzo, Maske.
Ward lost a fantastic opportunity when he didnt want to fight Bute an undefeated world champ. Ward seemed to be nervous of fighting Bute.

Part of the problem is that there are not any ATGs for Ward to match up to and not many good undefeated world champs. Cloud has looked beaten in some opinions a couple of times already, so Cleverly would be a good step in the right direction for Ward

I find this a baffling question

I think he currently has the best SMW resume (and is the SMW goat)

And I think he beats or at the very very least is in the same class as all of the oher 168 greats in terms of skillset

So unless he goes in a disasterous losing streak it's nailed on, a win over pavlik, a win over bute and he could retire on his resume tbh

However if he whoops kessler & froch for a second time it'll be even sweeter

What's it going to take to make your ***** stop bleeding over the way Ward dismantled the Froch and is rapidly eclipsing Calslappy's legacy?

To become an ATG, he needs to be an ATG.
