Now that Helenius is the WBO's #1 Contender, Whom Should he Fight Next?

Chef, I'm VERY curious to know what you personally, and of course Team K, think of Helenius, in general? (I mean before his somewhat embarrassing comeback fight.)

Was / is he seen as a serious potential threat?

Personally, I don't see him ever getting to Wlad with that bomb right of his, as he likes to throw it from mid-range. At the same time, Helenius has a pretty good defense against a strong left, so Wlad would have to really work to take him out. It could e a very interesting bout.

 

Tank Williams roughed up a 48 y/o Holyfield who was rated in the 15 by several orgs at the time of the fight. Hell, the WBA had him #1 to Potvetkin after that fight I think.
And in his next fight, he goes to China and beats ESB's own Chauncey Welliver who had slowly but surely worked his way into a rating by both the WBO and the WBC. It was a fairly close fight in my estimation, but Tank is a tough nut to crack, and Chauncey's up close n personal style, combined with not so devastating power, resulted in the upset. Tank earned his rating with the WBO.

Helenius was previously ranked much higher, but was bumped down after the injury and inactivity. He came back and reclaimed his rating with a win over a WBO top 10.

Not the best win in the world, but it's better than Potvetkins latest victory, and it was a test, and only a test.

I think we'll see Robbe vs Rosberg next to be quite honest. I don't think Sauerland is going to rush him at this point. Wlad said 39, and Robbe is 28. Hell, 2 yrs and he could fight for a vacant title, or he can take his chances and get WACHED.
Yeah, I think he likes his chances for a vacant title vs the likes of Fury or Boystov more than he's fancying that date with Wlad anytime soon.:think

Helenius needs a top ranked contender, ideally in a WBO eliminator. Boytsov early 2013 would be ideal.

In fairness he was ranked somewhat highly with the WBO after taking the WBO China Zone heavyweight title and interim WBO Asia Pacific heavyweight titles off Chuancy Welliver.

How is that even possible. Helenius said no at least twice, then was injured and has now just got back into the top rankings.

Tank was rated by WBC and WBO after he beat Wellinger.

Probably Helenius old No.1 ranking before his injury also had something to do with it.

Oh and former No.1 Boytsovs unwillingness to face anyone with a pulse

 

I'm surprised so many are writing off Helenius already. Setbacks are part of the game as an athlete. Future champions are made or broken in the way they deal with their setbacks.
