That's what everybody thought before he savaged Latimore. (and, come to think of it, people were saying it even as far back as before Williams I) Thurman hasn't done anything yet to suggest he's even at Deandre Latimore level.
He's a mini David Haye but with balls and integrity. He's good and he's gonna whack this old ****er out tonight!
Surely on the wind up. Thurman looks like the real deal. Not perfect by any means but a very good looking prospect. Power in both hands (ridiculous amateur KO rate), can fight moving forward or on the back foot, excellent technique/timing, good counterpuncher etc. Needs to work on putting his punches together better and does lack a little in the overall speed department. Has fought NOBODY so the obvious concerns of his chin/heart and how he handles adversity will be key.
The bum he fought last time got hammered with some absolute bombs and was slurping them down like candy. This kid's power isn't what people think it is. His skills are also atrocious. He may wrest a title from someone like a K9 or a Rigoberto Alvarez or something, but don't think for a second he'll ever become one of the sport's elite. He's a boxer-puncher who can't really box and doesn't have much more than an average punch, and has a shitty attitude with delusions of grandeur far beyond the scope of his limited abilities. I don't care how many people he kayoed in the amateurs or so far on the way up the pro ranks - who the **** were they? His reputation as a knockout artist is even more inflated than Valero's was. He stepped up to D+ level against Lora and didn't really display this savage one-punch power everyone's been harping about for a couple of years. He labored toward the stoppage after landing shitloads of punches. He is a can crusher with a flashy boisterous personality, nothing more.
Love the Latimore fight, Watched it over & over alot week of & after... Q smashed him dude hasn't been seen since. MIA
:nod I'd say as much as he had left in May ought to suffice against the version of Thurman we saw in July.
I am at a loss of words. :-( I agree he is a talker that can annoy some people but imo he is the real deal. Lora was a face first Mexican brawler who had a decent chin. Lora was able to take a lot of serious damage before literally quitting. Rare you see a Mexican slugger just say no mas.
I reserve full judgement until I see him take some heavy shots. Assuming he has a chin he would outclass Angulo imo.
Seems like there's no middle ground when talking about Thurman...So I'm going to create it. Decent, though by no means spectacular stand up boxer-puncher, with solid though not necessarily spectacular power. I wouldn't classify him a beast just yet, but shows enough promise that I wouldn't rule out his chances of making an impact on the sport entirely. Quintana should test him, though. Depending on the nature of the test, we'll see if Thurman is closer to the "beast" or "sucks" side of this argument.
regarding his personality/attitude, here's a taste: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jveYamzckhM[/ame]
He just turned 24 yesterday and has only 18 pro fights. Relax man. I honestly think he's being rushed up way too soon myself. Quintana maybe a faded C- fighter, but thats still a huge step up from what he has been fighting. An experienced southpaw? Might be a mistake.
