The Berto/Guerrero referee last night

berto deserved to get his ass beat last night for underestimating robert and guerrero was more than happy to oblige.

No, but you're being a doorknob in thinking that this thread has anything to do with the eventual outcome of the fight. This is about the referee lacking any type of authority, consistency or control over the fight last night. Now do I have to spell out the title of this thread for you? :huh

he chose to let the fighters fight, that was his authority. why dont you read Jacks assessment of the fight which is what i concur.

You're right, that Berto should have done something about it, but I also can't blame him for thinking that was an actionable offense that the ref would have enforced.

So what you're trying to say, is that Berto was holding Guerrero's hand against his own head, to help him brace. Cause that's the only reason Roberts hand should've bee glued there like it was.

I agree, Guerrero was working on the inside not like he clinched and waited for referee to step between them.

 

i agreed that it was a blatant foul but the lackadsical way that berto fought the first round was indicative that he was not prepared to "protect yourself at all times."

berto had the mentality that guerrero could not hurt him and he paid a dear price for that.

when robert was holding him behind his head he should have been firing off an uppercut instead of allowing himself to get punched all the while hoping that the ref was going to help him.

this is the ****ing hurt business and because berto was not prepared he got hurt.

in the ****ing hurt business you dont sit around and hope that the ref saves you by enforcing the rules.

you save yourself by being prepared for any and all tactics.

As the series of punches initiate that sent Berto to the canvas here is the breakdown.
Left hook wobbles Berto.
Berto initiates clinch with both hands.
Guererro tries to push his right glove into Berto face to break free.
Berto cups Guerrero right hand next to his head.
Guerrero breaks left hand free.
Throws uppercut followed by three lefts.
Berto held Guererro right hand all the way through the knockdown.

Let's see, Guerrero holds and hits, hits after the ref says stop, headbuts, grinds his head against Berto's eye and low blows. Yet when Berto rabbit punches a modicum amount I'm retaliation because the ref wasnt doing anything about Guerrero's obvious fowling is told off.

Fair enough if you've gonna play the old school fight card then yeah this was the type. But we're talking about the ref here and he was bias to the nth degree. A blind man could tell you that.

He even allowed Guerrero to fire and connect at Berto at least five times after the final bell. Yes they did that back in the day. But we're not back in the day are we? So that a blantant incompatancy on the ref's part.
