I've watched only a few of his fights and the kid has grown on me, big respect, win or lose the guy has potential and is going in to the ring to make it a fight. He has won me as a fan. I thought i would start a thread just because it doesn't seem like he is getting much attention considering the rest of the fights that took place this weekend. Any body has any interesting info on the kid? and what are your thoughts, will he make it far? is it too early to tell?
i'v been calling this guy the future of boxing for months now, no-one believed me, maidana pussied out big time.
from the first time i laid eyes on him i liked his style, but its always hard to say how far guys like him will make it... either way he is a pleasure to watch.
I'll be the first to admit I thought Quintana was going to be a bigger test & show something Vs. this kid. Thurman beat that out of Carlos right away w/That body shot. He won't be an elite (From what I have seen thus far)... But i'll watch every fight he is involved in.
that dude cellz called it before anything. I like the fact that thurman is a fighter first, who doesn't care if he loses, who looks to pummel his opponents. there are so many fights out there for him that would produce foty action. I'd love to see him in against victor ortiz
He's going to be on TV alot in the future due to his marketable style. He should do pretty well for himself.
can anyone imagine thruman vs GGG? would be a war... absolute war and their styles in one fight will almost guarantee FOTY if it doesn't end too soon.
I now see why he backed out of that fight. Getting knocked out by an unknown like that would have been a major setback for Maidana.
Yeah, he would have ruined Maidana. Now Maidana, and all, can go on pretending he is something other than maybe a bit above ordinary.
Nah, it would be over very quickly. I really, REALLY like Thurman, but he keeps dropping his left. (especially when the ref breaks the fighters.) Combine that weakness with his slightly-slow arm speed, and he's a sitting duck for the patient, counter-punching sniper that is Golovkin. Thurman can go very far, and give us lots of exciting fights, IF he tightens up his defense & learns to not take stupid chances. He needs one devastating defeat to learn this lesson. - kind of like Deontay Wilder.
I was sold enough on him prior to this weekend to smash into him to T/KO Quintana... ... One Time has paid for my next couple of nights out :deal
