You think Lewis could beat prime Mike like he did in 2002 using the same tactics?

 

I dont think Lewis was prime in 2002 either.

He'd have basically used the same tactics though yes.

It wouldnt have been such a brutal beat down, but he'd still have won.

Tyson never fought anyone like Lewis when he was in his prime.

 

If Tony Tucker can go 12 rounds with Mike Tyson, and if it was not for the injured hand..? He may have pushed Mike Tyson to a split decision.

Then Lennox Lewis can most definitely, be involved in a 12 round competitive fight.

I think Lennox Lewis would still win! Just too big, too strong, too fast, too technically sound.

Lennox Lewis vs Mike Tyson, was a under par fight for Lennox Lewis aswell.

 

People will argue Tyson wasn't quite prime against Tucker, but it's a good analogy because Tucker was not as good as Lewis or the Klitchko's.

Tyson at his best could get past a long jab from a tall guy. He faded defensively back then after 5 rds, but he maintained his stamina. LL wasn't fully into the zone with Steward yet as of 95. Prime Mike takes out the LL of 95 who was still refining himself under Steward.

 

Remember that also Mikey in his prime outweighted his opponents most of the time up until the Spinks fight (his primey), and the guys he didn't outweigh were often less than 1 lbs heavier.

His outweighting and dominant reign are going hand in hand.
The same goes for frazier, the same goes for Ali, the same goes for Joe Louis.

Sometimes you have guys who can do the things without a weight advantage most of the time.(Ofcourse they can sometimes KO the heavy guys but every weight knows glass jaws)
Holyfield can take the heaviest guys, but he is one of the few with those skills and gifts.

But Tyson is no Holyfield and Lennox Lewis isn't Sammy Scaff, James Smith or Tony Tubbs.
Mike doesn't have the size advantage here, they're both very skilled and I will always give Lewis the edge.

 

Lewis was not in his prime in 2005. Physical prime, maybe... technical prime? No. Lewis got better as he was in his mid 30's as seems to be the trend with the bigger heavyweights... Lewis, Wlad, Vitali, ect...

I take Tyson against a 95 Lewis. A later Lewis is a much better fight. Tyson could still overwhelm him. Lewis had bad balance, and I could see Tyson's swarming causing Lewis to stumble over his own feet and leave him in awkward positions. However, I could also see Lewis using his size the right way, wearing Tyson down... draining him and taking him out.

 

He sure is - I point this out all the time. All the Tyson is the BADDDDDEST huggers have come to this thread. I think MT would have beat just about any HW from the 70s & 80s.

However LL - or Wlad - would beat MT about 9 out of 10 times. Tyson's only chance would be to land something big early since neither has a top chin/jaw.

To be fair, Douglas his prime is way shorter.

 

Tyson is a horrible match up for Wlad and will probably KO him brutally.

 

All good points and this is why I can't pick a a definite winner, simply too many factors to take in. Lewis had a style advantage as he tended to dominate shorter, come forward fighters. But Tyson isn't like any other fighter Lewis has faced, he wasn't just an aggressive puncher, he was elusive and his speed and combinations were some of the best the division as ever seen.

 

Tyson had a 2 year peak from 86-88 and was unbeaten from 85-90.

Hardly 18 months. Lewis and his paper chin could only take the shot, faded Mike Tyson of 2002 who was smoking blunts in Hawaii instead of training. Even then he was holding on to Mike like a magnet and was nearly overwhelmed by his opening attack. That lazy jab would be easily counter by Tyson who had the fastest hands of any heavyweight, laced with dynamite. He doesn't survive the opening Tyson assault and would be mauled.

Prime Lewis was nearly taken out by Mercer and even Holyfield gave him a scare in round 7 of their second bout.

 

Oh,Im sorry, his peak lasted 2 whole years as opposed to the 18 months I mentioned.

Also, do you Think Lewis was prime in 2005?
The guy was older than Tyson and had been in some wars.

Holyfield gave Lewis a scare? Holyfield beat Mike up TWICE! But these losses apparently dont count because it was out side Mikes 2 year prime.
