Why do you think Mcgirt got beat so badly in Fight II with Whitaker?

Haha, mcgirt always has excuses. He made an excuse after the first fight, whitaker gave him a rematch and now theres another excuse. Where was this excuse for all the other fights mcgirt was winning in 1993 and 1994?

 

McGirt was both past his prime and fighting without his whole artillery.

Even before the first Whitaker fight he showed that he was slowing down against Genaro Leon, taking round house punches that he would have laughed at a few years earlier.

Despite an injured left shoulder he fought gallantly against Whitaker in the first fight, but that was pretty much his last stand.

The left hook was never an effective punch against Whitaker so it's unlikely that made much of a difference, but then he started to slow up and gassed pretty bad (worse than usual) in the rematch.

Whitaker performed very well, but that was not the Buddy of the Simon Brown/Patrizio Oliva days.

Exactly, hes the one that mouthed pernell off and called him a punk and demanded a rematch. Mcgirt won several fights before this fight and he was still able to win fights after. I dont really care about excuses anyways because they dont change the outcome, making excuses for mcgirt doesnt add to his resume, all it does is give him a shorter prime, which would actually hurt him.

 

How many times did McGirt drop Whitaker? I don't think he got credit for one of the knockdowns.

Anyway, the first fight was close. The second had some good moments by McGirt but clearly was not as close as the first.

McGirt was past prime and injured (even in their first fight)... he still fought pretty well. He's a borderline great. A whole lot of, "how good could he have been" with McGirt. McGirt hung around way too long with that bumb shoulder.

Meldrick Taylor was damn near perfect in his win over McGirt (KO12). This shouldn't hurt McGirt's status. McGirt (who turned pro in 1982) looked very good vs.

He lost very few rounds in these fights, some of them were shut outs.

After Brown he started slipping IMO. He fought low level guys but wasn't beating them in a dominating fashion. Guys like Patrizio Oliva and Genaro Leon... good records but nothing special.

He fought Whitaker in 1994. The fight was close. I had it even. McGirt went 14-4 (4) just after the Leon fight and was stopped once. The wins were over low level fighters and he had very little snap on his punches even though he managed to drop Whitaker.
