There were enough hard punches landed and there was enough damage inflicted on both guys where one always had the sense that neither fighter was completely out of the fight entirely. Plus there were about three rounds which featured enough bitterly contested exchanges that they warrant consideration for ROTY honors when the topic comes up next month. (7th, 9th, and 12th, specifically). You just can't say that about truly terrible, or monotonous, fights.

It was an ugly fight...but it was always intriguing and sometimes exciting. We could have seen a lot worse, to be honest.

How did you score the fight btw. I had it close.
I had it 6-5-1 Guerrero and from how I see it, the fight might have turned completely different had Berto not gotten thumbed in the eye.
Berto's eye closing in the early rounds came as a direct thumb to the eye.
The eye swelled immediately and even so, Berto was able to make it competitive.

I would have loved to have seen how Guerrero would have dealt with Berto's speed had there been a better ref who would rightfully deduct points for holding.
Holding when both want foot positioning is one thing, but to wrap your hand around an opponents hand to keep him from using it as a weapon is something a ref has to put a stop to and deduct points.

Maybe Guerrero wins the fight anyways, but I'd like to have seen it done on even terms.

I never scored it. Which is a sign of me enjoying the fight. I have a scoring app on my phone, but will always stop/forget scoring if the fight is either very exciting or boring.

My gut felling after was a close but clear win for Gurrero, and agree it was pretty much the knock downs that made the difference. But i wasnt RBR scoring this one.

I also agree that a ref that breaks it up more would create a more even fight, but still think gurrero knicks it. As Berto couldnt defend that straight left down the middle.

But personally i though even though gurrero was the one making the fight at close quarters, berto was responsible for alot of the holding as well.

And berto was innocent? lmfao. Come on man. Berto is the much of the blame for holding. Example remember berto vs urango? Who was clinching like there was no tommorow? Exactly but in this fight you would think berto didnt hold as much as guerrero? lol.

Every fight of John Ruiz except the Tua bout where he got brutally KO'd. Ruiz is more boring to watch than the Wladimir Klitschko.

I was watching two guys exchange hard punches throughout those particular stanzas, with one guy taking control before the other one tried to take it back. Seems like you had your mind made up after watching rounds 3-6, which is too bad, because the fight picked up a bit in the last half. Pity you shut the TV off and missed it.:good

In all seriousness, I think this fight was just as good as Berto-Ortiz (which featured about as much holding and mauling, especially in the second half and which really didn't warrant the FOTY honor it received last year, imo). That's not to say that I view it as the best fight of 2012...But some of the rounds were pretty enthralling, albeit in a grimy, down and dirty kind of way.
