Broner's style of it would actually suit Berto I think that's what he was tryin to do

Broner-DeMarco is a perfect recent example of shoulderrolling a southpaw.

The difference between Antonio Demarco and Robert Guerrero was, Robert would smother your work where Antonio would rest on your shoulder. And Berto is obviously a bit more refined than PEDrto.

 

Fact: Floyd has dominated all professional southpaws he's faced.

Broner just destroyed a southpaw in Demarco.

 

I think that he felt that if he just made the frowny "you ain't hittin' ****" face... that everything would work out.

he was definitly trying to be Broner last week. not floyd. he's imitating a 22 year old atsch.

 

and Broner beat the living **** out of Demarco all while using the should roll to perfection.

 

In the past, Floyd hasn't stood still against southpaws, exactly for this reason. He likes to keep them at his range, and walk them down, so they are forced to be in compromising defensive position.

Even against Ortiz, Floyd found out early that Ortiz's shots were getting through and banging Mayweather's head back when Mayweather retreated and was caught against the ropes.

The reason being, Ortiz was bigger and stronger than Mayweather, so Mayweather could not simply walk him down like he did against smaller guys, like Judah, and Sharmba Mitchell.

Even though, he's bigger than Pacquaio, I'll imagine he'll run into the same problem against him due to his explosive punching power.

Mayweather will have to significantly adjust his gameplan against Pacquaio and would be wise to adjust it against Guerrero or he will find himself in a similiar position that Berto was in.

Of course, Mayweather is better defensively, and less shots will get through, but I don't think he has the power that Berto does.

Additionally, Cotto managed to push Mayweather back, and while Mayweather retained accuracy, he was off balance, so his shots didn't have the effect they would have if his feet were planted firmly.

I'm not sure how Guerrero will match up against Mayweather from a size wise perspective, but he may very well turn out to be the bigger stronger fighter, which will make a Mayweather victory far more difficult than people are making out, especially considering Mayweather's age.

Anyway, to get back on subject, the best defense against a southpaw is footwork. It's not smart to lay on the ropes against a strong southpaw.
