Hmm What about Arreola - Stiverne being WBC semi-finals, same as Banks-Mitchell. The winners would be fighting eachother for the WBC eliminator.

This is very weird that the WBC would declare a final eliminator between Fury and Kingpin now. Doesn't make any sense?!

I guess that would work just fine depending on the timeline some contenders finally needs to sort out who get a first shot. I think Fury / Arreola will get a first pass to the final eliminator. I doubt that Banks will want his shot anytime soon, while Mitchell beating Banks in a rematch is just a redemption to get his contender status again ...

To be fair, Austin was DQ'd against Solis and I hardly consider that a real loss. Strange decision by the referee.

But Austin should never have been in an eliminator in the first place.

 

He was kinda in an eliminator vs Golota to fight Valuev but that was not a real win due to Golota's injury.

Sanctioning bodies really need to be more transparent with their decision making. It's no surprise that they have become a joke with decisions like this.

 

Anyone see a statement from WBC on this? I can just find Fury's promoter being quoted.

 

Just to clarify Fury is ranked 3rd, Johnson 32nd.
It should have been Fury vs Boytsov (ranked No 4) but Boytsov bottled it.
Banks won't fight Vitali.
Many people said Arreola vs Stiverne would not happen from the beginning. Mysteriously it keeps getting delayed.

I'm not saying it should be a final eliminator but I can understand why they have done this. Plus I wouldn't mind seeing Fury vs Vitali.

 

This is a good fight. Especially considering that Fury was supposed to fight Boytsov originally. KJ is a good replacement, and really has only been bested once and that was by Vitali. losing a "3 round bout" isn't really as concrete as losing a 8,10 or 12 round bout. in the eyes of Fury/and his team, they're taking on a guy that was only bested by Vitali. Should be a good fight..... Unless KJ shows up in defensive mode like he did against Vitali..

 

Ahhhh, **** - my bad, everybody. I was mixing up their WBC rankings with those of Manuel Charr and Juan Carlos Gomez (who have the other mildly interesting heavyweight clash on the near horizon).

In both cases, you have a top ten guy against someone outside the top 30. Neither should be an eliminator. (but watch them both be semis, with the winner of Charr vs. Gomez and the winner of Fury vs. Johnson meeting in a "final" elim :!

 

I hope that "eliminator" means that the loser will be eliminated from WBC rankings.
