If one fighter is dominating but gets knockdown in a round by one lucky punch, that's when it is up to the judge's discretion to make it a 9-9 round.

Ishida vs Kirkland in the first round, Kirkland got knocked down 3 times and was still getting up but Cortez stopped the fight.

It's not the judges fault that someone was floored 3 times.
**** him,it's 10-6. Too deep of a hole? Then fight better.

    Really? In what fight?

I don't remember the last time I saw a title fight with an even round scored

I remember Harold Lederman saying most judges wont go further than 10-7 because it puts the fighter too far out of the fight...then again, Harold is a ****in idiot and a horrible judge so take that for what its worth.

All judges had an even round in Rabchenko-Vitu.

Hatton-Sencehenko (Yeah, not at title fight, but does that make a difference?) two judges had an even round before the stoppage.

Agreed. If the fighter whom was knocked down 3 times makes a good account of himself the remainder of the round 10-7 can be a legit score.

Yeah, not to be pendantic, but title fights do make a difference, there are often stricter and more 'correct' rulings for title fights, as when it's a non-title fight generally anything (within reason) goes, scoring and rules wise

Though given all the judges in those fights (I assume) would have been brits, maybe it's still a thing used by the BBBoC?

    It's definitely a rarity

    I suppose it can :think

Yeah, it might something to do with the BBBoC, as I normally notice it in in fights with British judges.

The scoring shall be done on a TEN POINT must system. Judges are to score each round using the following scoring criteria:

    1. Clean punching (power versus quantity).
    2. Effective aggressiveness.
    3. Ring generalship.
    4. Defense.

    Incomplete or Partial Rounds
In the event that the bout is stopped in the middle of the round, the judges shall score ALL incomplete or partials rounds as if they were a complete round.

    Knockdowns
Judges shall deduct points for knockdowns only when they are called as such by the referee.

    Point Deductions
Judges may only deduct points for fouls when they are instructed to do so by the referee.

General guidelines for the "10 Point Must System"
Judges should avoid scoring a round even. (Complete concentration and application of the scoring criteria will allow Judges to pick the winner of each round.)

    The basic scoring concepts
    - Round ends, no clear winner 10-10 (Rare)
    - Close round/Winning of the round by effective boxing – 10-9
    - One knockdown and a winning of the round – 10-8
    - No knockdowns, but a clear dominating winning of the round – 10-8
    - Two knockdowns – 10-7
    - One knockdown and one point deduction to the same boxer – 10-8 (minus 1) = 10-7
    - More than two knockdowns – 10-6
    - Two knockdowns and one point deduction – 10-7 (minus 1) = 10-6

I was wondering the same thing. I watched the Pac vs. JMM 1 fight for the first time on Sunday and scored the first round 10-6. I was surprised to find out that one of the judges had scored it 10-7. I was also confused how one of the other judges gave only one round to Pacquiao other than the first. 115-110 to JMM was a far cry from my 113-112 Pacquiao.
