The only time I really thought Leonard cherrypicked was not good for boxing. He fought so many greats so I always gave im credit. The only guy to beat all Duran,Hearns,Hagler and Benitez, but to pick Lalonde for two titles and Lalonde weighing in at 168 for the 168 pound belt and the Lightheavyweight belt when he was weakened was not great for boxing. Ray just wanted to beat Hearns to 5 titles or at least match him, since Tommy won his WBO title against Kinchen 3 days before the Lalonde fight.
Hiya mate, Joe was also old when he fought Roy and I don't see the fight as the stuff of legends. Joe just wanted one big payday to retire on and Roy is broke or still thinks he's the greatest or can't stop boxing whatever reasons he's still fighting I don't know. I don't really count that fight for much other than a money making exercise for which it was very good and they were both handsomely paid. As for Roy he has few weak names on his resume same as Calzaghe and I'm sure we've debated this before. However, Joe fought in a weaker SMW period to begin with and beat the best available apart from Ottke who refused to fight him and we all know about the strange case of Hopkins refusing a career high payday to fight Joe although as we all know the reasoning isn't clear but showed Joe tried. Also in the end Joe unified and beat the man at the division above abroad. Also keep in the mind that the fighter makes the belt not vice versa, although you're not the average idiot on here so I trust you know that As for Roy he often fought mandatory fighters when bigger names could have been made. You might say I'm being too harsh on Roy but most fighters have a resume that can be glorified and damned depending on what view you take nice talking to you
Calzaghe 99 http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Boxing...he.-a060444934 He could of fought Jones when he was prime, but waited until he was shot He missed: Liles, Dariusz.M, Dawson, Pavlik, G.Johnson x 2, Woods Floyds resume at 147 is questionable
Good points mate, and I agree with nearly all of that. I was very frustrated when Roy was fighting his mando's, but it's not as straight forward as saying, bigger fights could have been made. Bigger fights around that time were trying to be made. The DM fight was trying to get made, and the Hopkins rematch until Hop priced himself out. When those fights couldn't get made, that's when he made the decision to go up to heavy. I just wondered if there was a particular fighter that you think Roy cherry picked? Nice debating with you mate. Regards, Loudon.
Hi mate, How's things? Haven't spoken to you for ages. If you have time, I want you to correct me, on the thread titled "Classic James Toney stuff from 93" I've asked you a question mate, and I wondered if you could clear things up for me? Thanks a lot! Loudon.
Things are cool I dont really have much free time these days. Normally I just read some threads without taking part I will check it out:good
Calzaghe and Mayweather . Although Floyd is one of the most hated boxers in the history of boxing he still gets much more respect then Calzaghe .
Manny wins this hands down and its not even debatable. Floyd fought guys that everyone said he was ducking then those same guys became cherry picks after Floyd beat him. If Floyd is the greatestcherry of all time then start listing names.
