12 rounds. 22 x 22 ring. Modern rules. Modern gloves. How do you see it playing out?

Some old school fighters may be 'greater' than the recent top fighters, but they are not better.

Roy Jones would toy a prime Johnson if we're being that realistic.

Roy might win, but Jack would give him a hell of a fight.

I think Johnson would need a KO here as he had trouble with a good jabbers in O'Brien, who didn't hit nearly as hard as Jones did.

:smoke i can already see how that one would go..."look what he did to bowe, he'd murder jones!"

anyway, for this fight..time machine,etc....take johnson to the present day and his low activity and counter-punching style would not work against someone with jones' speed. johnson is not aggressive enough to drive jones to the ropes and would find himself getting caught by a cautious, potshotting jones. he begins timing jones near the latter rounds and lands some solid leather but it's not nearly enough to take the decision.

over 12, jones wins a wide UD

It would be similar to Jones Jr Vs Toney. Jones would be in and out to quickly for Johnson and I'm a huge fan of Jacks. Defensive fighters in Jack's day all tended to be flat footed although they're where very few around. Jones by wide UD 9/10. Johnson by KO catching Roy on the way in 1/10

So much has changed in that time..it's hard to even imagine how JJ would go about it considering he couldn't grab on to Roy and muscle him around..couldn't use his vast array of tricks up close..if he had him down and in trouble he couldn't jump on him straight away..have his size almost taken entirely out the equation as he couldn't get all ghetto on Roy..especially if Nady was reffing.

Maybe we can meet somewhere in the middle...8 ounce gloves from the 60's era, with 60's interpretations of the rules...Jack can get away with a bit more but Roy will still have the protection of from most things Jack used to get up to.

If an old salad shooter like Jack O'Brien can frustrate Johnson, a sniper like Jones could put him out.

I would put the mortgage on Jones.

If Tarver can ko Jones, JJ wins by ko early

Exactly, because a prime for prime match-up would include the Jones of the Tarver fight.

    Good work, MENSA.
