The more we get close to it the more I get excited by the fight and kinda want the upset to happen, even though my brain tells me it's higly unprobable. :yep

    I love upsets. :hat

Ward will ensure Pavlik is never at a distance to get good leverage on his punches. When Pavlik connects with his punches, they won't be effective or anywhere as heavy as they would be at the range he operated at for most of the Taylor fights.

So yeah, terrible fight for him.

His reflexes will have to improve greatly. The shot he put Rosinski down with was open a couple of other times and he couldn't pull the trigger quick enough.

I seem to remember Pavlik managing to figure out Martinez's speed and deliver some punishment at 160. Pavlik was criticized by Emmanuel Steward (RIP) for not being fast and just being a brawler but he managed to have some exceptional fights against Taylor. He was humiliated by Hopkins Jr., but maybe that's a teachable moment.

I like Pavlik, not because he's white but because he's a humble guy who wants to work hard. He's with another humble trainer in Robert Garcia. They're going to get together and put out effort to try to upset the champion.

ecdrm15 put it the best, all the big talkers in 168 and 175 are simply going to get a beating if they go against Andre Ward. Kelly Pavlik and Garcia have no arrogance and they're both heart. This is a good fight.

the problem is his marketability has gone way downhill....if he beats a bute or has a competitive fight against a froch, kessler, etc he's still gonna have some staying power rather that getting white washed by ward and sent back to betty ford

This is a terrible fight for Pavlik but at this stage of his career but he should take it since he might not get this type of opportunity again. There's a lot of good talent in the division who could easily derail him from reaching this type of fight.

its a good fight for pavlik. he has a punchers chance and we are not sure how ward would respond from a solid pavlik right. that is the drama in this one. it of course may not unfold at all, but that is the drama, the punchers chance. Kelly has massive stones for taking this fight. If he even staggers ward badly during the fight it would be a victory for him at this point. He was at rock bottom a couple years ago. I like this fight.

Well, I think that Pavlik has earned his shot by beaten 4 decent opponents..
Ward will school Pavlik pretty much every minute of every round though, Ward will likely win a dominant 3x 120-108 UD.
Pavlik will probably get paid handsomely..

Overall this is a very bad matchup for Pavlik, he is too predictable and he will find himself missing with his jab the entire fight, while punching huge holes in the air with his right hand, Ward will counter Pavlik's lineal attacks and dominate him on the inside..

I wonder if this is Pavlik's last stand, does he have enough $$$$ to retire??

I think Froch was looking at Pavlik. I don't think Pavlik would've left Amercia to fight anyone though, so Ward so by far the best option for him.

boy..... cant say enuf of this...

Ward's style is tailor-made against classic punchers....

Pavlik is a classic abc puncher

He'll NEVER be able to feel comfortable punching cuz Ward will NEVER be in that perfect range. Ward's style is designed to effectively eliminate that "range".... As most fighter's say, he's too far away or he's too close.

His game and strategy is to eliminate any fair exchanges by eliminating pocket-fighting. A classic puncher needs to feel that sweet spot in order to feel comfortable in letting loose. And they need to get set first too. Ward will either be too far for him and he'll get potshotted to death, or Ward will jump in and close the distance fast for the phone-boothing game, eliminating Pavlik's power, and also eliminating fair exchanges, since no one else seems to know how to phonebooth/maul effectively...

The bad thing is if Ward decides to make this into a battle of attrition by Death By Phoneboothing, Pavlik may start fading out fast going into the later rounds. Pavlik's key will be trying to catch and exchange Ward from a distance, and getting the big right in. His 1 2's will give the only chance to victory
