I think it was good for the sport. We've seen Flintoff train very hard for this fight, and then, when he stepped in the ring, we saw the gulf in class between top fighters and novices, it really was night and day stuff.

It then shows just how good the pros are, and how much dedication it requires to make it.

Shouldn't have been the headline fight over Price though, that was degrading to him, but i'm sure all on the undercard understood the interest in his plight.

Let's not forget it takes serious effort to lose 20kg+ and get anywhere near that level and he must be applauded for that.

    PS

Flintoff hits like Calzaghe, didn't do him any harm ;-)

It was a farcical fight, but at the same time it probably got a lot of people who don't normally watch boxing, interested in the sport, at least for a night.

Dawson literally threw one punch which landed, then backed off for the duration of the fight, backing away to the ropes from sissy slaps!! There was no momentum or weight behind those shots yet Dawson was getting backed up and unable to get off? Let's be honest its not like Flintoff was raining heavy shots on him. He just didn't bother throwing back obviously he was advised not to. He was a stooge for sure. What a total load of bollocks that was.

After reading the comments on here I just watched the "fight" After the knockdown Dawson did not throw any punches at all. Did not even try. Clearly a fix.

**** all to do with jealousy!!!very simple, he got knocked on his arse and the other guy never threw a meaningful punch, total farce!!! The Boxing board shot themselves in the foot giving him licence, and mcguiggan made himself look like a fool!! 39-38 with a 10-8 round? Eh ok then??!

Even regards to the betting I stayed well away from this one. Was talking to a guy on the bus before I got home to watch the fight and we were talking how it may well be a set up. I thought Flintoff would look bad but not this bad. You'd think with 8 months of learning technique he could at least throw a jab but that **** was embarrassing.

No wonder they had to fix that anyone who could throw a punch would have beaten him easily and of course will all the hype they really wouldn't have wanted that to happen.

go **** yourself you useless jealous **** :deal

have a go in the ring, you and some others may relise how hard it is to actually box.
novice boxers are just that novice,it takes a while to get used to being hit,and also hitting back while being hit.
If it was not so high profile no one would give a ****,its that simple, lads turn pro every week,it just shows how jealous folk can be ,****wit:thumbsup

I agree with some of this. If it had been an amateur fight with the same result we'd be applauding Flintoff for a plucky showing. The fact it was a televised pro-fight, with all the baggage that comes with Flintoff, means the mediocre display from his opponent and the judging are to be questioned.

  13. Am I right in thinking the knockdown round should have been scored 10-8?

If it was the case how did Flintoff end up with 39 points?

Yeah lads turn pro every week but they are fighting at the top of a card as the main event.

It definitely should have been 10-8 because Flintoff did nothing better in that round which matches up with the kd so i can't see how it would be scored even.
