"If the money is right, yea definitly" Lewis is a guy with a net worth of 100 million pounds, a few million dollars extra aren't worth the dent on his resume. He didn't promise anything.
As you well know,he retired because, unlike many ATGs,he realised at the right time that it wasn't there anymore.Since your real agenda is pro-Vitali,the fact is that Vitali wasn't really that important at the time, and Lennox was correct to think that he'd just destroyed a guy's face when he was probably only about 50-60% of what he had been,so how was he to know that Vitali would still be plodding on all these years later when he couldn't even beat the only ATG he ever fought, despite that ATG being fat and past it? But you already know this,as you're an alt and have discussed this a million times before.
he saw what happened to his original opponent Kirk Johnson and knew the chances of a cut stopping Vitali again was slim. Vitali was on the up.
Lewis gets older everytime that this topic is brought up. He went from being 37 when he fought Vitali to being, 38 about a month after the fight... then 39... later on people just started using the old "pushing 40" trick... pretty soon Lewis will have been a senior citizen when he fought Vitali. Lennox was in his prime, just like Wlad is right now. About the same age too... just as Vitali was around that same age. The bigger heavyweights like those guys have shown to take longer to mature and enter their technical prime much later than smaller fighters.
Well so what he won against him. He came on strong and tore his face up with sixty stiches and made him unable to continue due to a landed punch. He did all that at HIS WORST. Now move along.
Lennox didn't have the motivation for Vitali. He wanted to rematch Tyson for another easy payday but that fell apart and Lewis (at the time) didn't think Vitali was adding much to his legacy. In hindsight Vitali IMO is his best win, TKO'ing a legitimate HOFer in his prime in a war.
I think he realized just how close he was to losing his title i dont think he wanted to undergo the physical rigors of training anymore and didnt want to fight someone so dangerous he just got done KO'ing Tyson and everyone was starting to call him great and then he had a rough outing I think it was a smart move on his part but was disappointing for the fans
Anybody that a) knows anything about physical sports And b) is around that age themselves Knows no sportsman is in their prime at 37 or older. It's impossible. Especially one that weighs 30 pounds more than 10 years previously. Wlad is in his prime. He's not far from not being though. I think he'll be better a bit longer than Lewis because honestly he looks after himself better. But in your late 30s your reflexes aren't as good. You're not as quick. Your motivation and drive has probably decreased. Someone might be able to use experience to compensate for the diminishing physical capability, but they will have slipped physically.
Lewis had been talking about retiring since before Tyson. And when exactly did he use the words "I promise"? Here's a better question....why did Vittle flat out lie to his fans when he said he'd get his title back after quitting against Byrd and than never even bother trying to make a rematch in spite of both of them being still active and near the top of the top 10?
now name 1 big HW boxer who got old at age of 30 please. Look at the modern generation, all of them are 30 something and had like 10-15 fights. You going to pull Sam Peter out of your ass however he is probably a lot older then he claims like most Nigerian athletes.
