I think both fights were very close and the scorecards once again dont indicate what really happen in the ring.

While Sergio did abandon his body attack to a certain extent against Chavez when he should have continued with it, he's typically very commited to the body, especially with that left straight.

But the difference between Trout's body attack and Martinez, is Martinez' far superior power makes it resonate with you longer.

He doesn't need as many punches as Trout. And while Angulo is slower of foot, he won't gas, his punches will hurt Trout, and he is becomming a better technician under the guidance of Virgil Hunter.

I suppose you could make an argument that Trout's defense is better, although Martinez has faster feet, but Martinez is similiar to Pacquiao in the sense that you rarely see him cornered because his power is so significant that he will knock you out if you go right at him.

I think he would slowly, and intelligently stalk Trout, pick him apart with body shots, and knock him down and out late. I would expect Trout to try to engage with Martinez out of pride, but as soon as he feels Martinez power, he will go into full retreat.

I think Trout would have has hands full with Angulo because he wouldn't be able to hurt him.

Starting in about round 4, Trout had a look of concern on his face as Cotto kept pushing the fight, and looked to be taking the fight out of Trout.

Then, a combination of Trout's early body punching and Cotto's tendency to fade, which he does in every fight, caught up to him, and Trout regained confidence.

I'm not sure he would be able to do this against Angulo who will not be detered and is a serious puncher.

Admittedly, Trout did impress me, especially when you consider his "performance" against DR, and this is why I think this fight is 50/50.

Before his fight with Cotto, I would expect Angulo to stop him, but now, I think 50/50 is a good number.

They should make this fight next if the fight with Canelo fails to materialize.

Angulo is the same fighter that was outbox by cintron. Trout would easily beat a slower, no defense ruined chin Angulo.

So let me get this straight.

Cotto, after being TKO'd by Pac = shot prior to the fight.

Cotto, after getting UD'd by FMJ = Cotto is fighting at his best weight

Cotto, after getting UD's by Trout 6 months later = back to being shot, and 154 is no longer is best weight.

    :rofl

Angulo is too slow, bad footwork and has no d at all. It be an easy win for trout cause he's quicker, far better skill and got good pop. U forgot trout hurt cotto in the first round in which cotto's chin is better then angulo.

I suggest you go back and watch the fight.

A sick Angulo was manhandled by Cintron who is huge for the weight, and a former NCAA wrestler.

He tied Angulo up at every opportunity and didn't allow Angulo to start his attack.

Cotto at times was able to push Trout around until a combination of Trout's body punches and Cotto's tendency to gas caught up with him.

Angulo is far bigger and stronger than Cotto.

Additionally, Angulo is now working with one of the top trainers in the sport, and trains Andre Ward, who is the best fighter in the clinch.

Do you not think that Angulo may have learned some tips in how to fight when his opponent is tieing him up?

Are you one of those posters that brings up Pacquaio getting knocked out when he was a teenager?

You do realize that Pacquaio is not the same fighter, right?

So, why would you assume that Angulo is?

However, Angulo is still a relentless, hard puncher that is very hard to hurt and deter.

But with Hunter in his corner, he is now a more technically proficient fighter as well.

Cotto's chin is better than Angulo's?

Wow, this probably won the dumbest statement of 2012 award.

You should make a thread asking about this.

    LOL.

    Good luck.

Cotto also got destroyed by a blown up Bantam weight in PAC......Which the blown up super feather weight has been ducking like the plague.

Floyd is better than Trout p4p, but Trout beats him at 154. A 36 year old Floyd should fight at his natural weight class

I knew Trout could win....I just didn't think he would. I said in another threat that Trout's physical dimensions would be his advantage...as long as he used an educated jab and kept the fight at range. He did that...ALL NIGHT. I was surprised that Miguel couldn't find his way on the inside more to knock out a few corners and control the fight.

Great win for Trout....well deserved and hope he gets a shot at Mayweather, Canelo or one of the other big names. Trout is a very solid fighter....very good skills all the way around the board but he doesn't have the kind of power that will make him a household name in this sport...he's not super fast that will make him stand out to fight fans......he's just a highly risky 154 lb champion who most likely won't be the first choice for many of the sports bigger names.

You're absolutely right.....They were obviously underestimating Trout in terms of the skills he brought to the ring. Being lighter, faster and more nimble most likely would have had an easier time avoiding Trouts offense and could have closed distance to make the fight on the inside. Cotto just couldn't do what he wanted in order make this a fight in a phone booth which would have favored the shorter fighter.

Miguel was heavier and wanted to get a KO. Being lighter wouldn't have made Cotto more susceptible to a KO beacuse Trout isn't a big puncher. They made a couple mistakes....one being their choice of opponent.

I think I had Cotto win 3 rounds vs Trout and Floyd but Trout did it more comfortably

Floyd whether its age or he chose to stand in the pocket and fight that way made it very difficult on himself and he took some hard shots and got bloodied, he did beat Cotto toe to toe which i found very impressive for most probably would have thought Floyd would do it on the run

Trout to me out boxed Cotto and didnt give Cotto the opportunities Floyd did, didnt take the came kind of punishment and looked like he really beat him up at times.

Floyd took Cotto to the trenches and Trout neutralized and out foxed him taking him out of the fight

they both fought 2 different fights but i just felt Trout did it easier
