Lets give Lara the benefit of the doubt and say that his right hand was indeed hurt in his last fight. How do you see this fight going if it ever happens? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iPHVrWVj0I[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QULVR1IseDc[/ame]
It's tough to say. Lara is more talented, and skilled than Trout, but has less determination. In other words, if Lara let his hands go enough, he'd probably win. But it's likely Trout would simply outwork him.
Both are tricky speedy southpaw movers, but my first inclination is that Trout beats him with a more consistent work-rate and a better right jab. I see him piling up more rounds while Lara waits for perfect opportunities and falls behind, not showing the sense of urgency he needs to truly catch up. Trout's proven his ability on the inside also. He might not prefer to battle it out in close quarters, but he can do it more comfortably than Lara.
I had high hopes for Lara when he was coming up, but aside from the Williams fight, he's done nothing to really impress me. I don't really count the Hearns fight for obvious reasons. He doesn't seem to have the fire or punch-output he needs, and his offense can get pretty dull and inaccurate. He has trouble creating openings for himself and setting up his attack. He just waits. Frustrating fighter to watch - I thought he was going to tool Vanes, but it was just competitive throughout.
Well in Lara's defense, at the time the fight got stopped, he WAS beginning to tool Vanes. That ugly rat got lucky as Hell with the headbutt, cause Lara was in control and beginning to pick him apart with the straight left. But I agree he's frustrating to watch. There's been MANY fighters in history with a lot of talent, who just never let there hands go enough. Lara is one of them. I'd put my money on Trout.
I think Lara still has more to show than what we've gotten so far, in terms of his offensive ability. Looking forward to see him improve on the adjustments he made towards the end of the fight against Vanes. Trout is a whole 'nother story though...50-50 for me at this point, depending on how Lara looks next time out.
Trout made the most outta the Cotto fight, and let his hands go enough to leave no doubt as to who the winner was. Whereas Lara made the Vanes fight close, when it should NOT have been close, simply because he bullshitted too much. Then after the fight of course Lara cries he was robbed. In the Williams fight, he had a legit reason to cry robbery. Against Vanes, he had no one to blame by himself.
EL's problem at the elite level is his lack of volume. It would be an interesting fight. Generally Lefty vs Lefty favours the guy that is the bigger puncher so I think I'd favour Lara. I've never honestly been that impressed with Trout before last night. He got his punches off better then I was expecting. IMO EL is best in the division but a guy that throws 41 jabs per rounds and is defensively good enough to avoid the big shots could give a low volume guy like Lara some issues. One thing is for certain though..... => It would be an interesting fight but would not be a fan friendly fight. That is for god dam sure!
Trout by razor decision I'd say. Or a draw or Lara by razor decision. Nobody would be knocking anybody out, that I believe we can agree on...
I agree with this 100%. Lara is a lot like an early JMM. Too defensively cautious and reluctant to engage and he will do better when he trusts his talent more and pushes himself harder.
great fight. At this point I would have to go with Trout, both guys have good skills offensively and defense. One advantage I see for Trout is Lara wants no part of an inside fight. If he could take it there I got Trout
