Michael Grant was an inexperienced kid who was never good and still isn't. Beating him means nothing. Lewis best win is David Tua who is known as a historical underachiever. Lewis was a cherry picker. He hid in England until all the best HW fighters were past their primes, and that’s undeniable. In England, he got knocked out by his only live opponent (Oliver McCall), exposing a fragile decanter chin. In America, he fought good names but not good fighters. First, a 35 year-old overweight cocaine addict named Tony Tucker. Tucker h was only a shadow of his former self at this point (14 pounds heavier than he weighed when he fought Tyson in 1987) Holyfield was considered past prime in 1996 before Tyson 1. BOXING; Despite Lack of Seasoning, Lewis Retains W.B.C. Title By TIMOTHY W. SMITH Published: September 27, 1998 "After Vaughn Bean lasted 12 rounds against Evander Holyfield in their heavyweight championship fight last week, Lennox Lewis complained that Holyfield looked like a has-been." So Holyfield was a has been but Lewis fights him anyway a year later. HA!
No one be tricked by the devious cherry picker Lummox Lewis. He cherry picked nearly all his fights. The Lummox cant punch his way through a wet paper bag. BOXING;Bronchitis Stops Tyson: Seldon Fight Is Off By FRANK LITSKY Published: July 04, 1996 ..."Lewis turned down a $13.5 million guarantee to fight Tyson. Lewis then accepted $4 million from King to step aside and allow Tyson to fight Seldon..."
incredible how Floyd could take a listless, heartless, shitjawed mental midget pissant like Victor Ortiz and hype him up to be some sort of world beater to drum up ticket sales. the guy is a disgrace
Maybe. Then again, Louis's best wins are old man Walcott and a 168lbs Billy Conn, arguably. He still dominated a huge swathe of contenders and is rightly lauded for it. More ranked contenders than all but three heavyweight champions of the world. An absolutely incredible achievement given his era. And for fewer losses than any of the men above it. That's a stupid thing to say. Even someone like Gary Mason isn't "BS", but one of the better British HW's of the last thirty years. Look, it's pretty clear you hate the guy and are on a mission to undermine his considerable achievments, but the raw stats are just far, far to heavy in their opposition. Thankfully. Holyfield was a very good fighter when Lewis beat him. I think had Joe Louis beaten him he would have been one of Louis's top 4 scalps.
Yeah, he fought the reigning IBF and WBA title holder to unify the HW titles and become unviersally recognised world's #1. What a cherry-picking *******
Well Gatti was a much easier fight than Tszyu...but at the same time, a much easier fight to make since Tszyu was on Showtime and had already signed to face Hatton for big dollars.
The fact that he fought an older Holyfield wasnt the problem. The problem was that he struggled to do it in 2 fights. Holyfield was quoted as saying "anytime I got close he (Lewis) would hug me tighter than my wife." Lewis was robbed of the first fight but many ringside observeers felt Holyfield won the second fight.
No I dont even hate Lewis. But he is not a top ten ATG heavyweight. Joe Louis skills and reign for nearly 12 years is why he was great. Everything about Joe Louis is better than Lummox Lewis including the jab. Lewis jab was a glorified range finder,Louis jab was an actual weapon. Emmanuel Steward after studying film of Louis-Schemling 2 concurred about Louis paralyzing power, making the following observation, (Pacheco, 45), "Louis body punches were unbelievable. After Max had been immobolized by a right to the kidney, he took a left hook to the solar plexus which paralyzed him. Even though Max was hurt and wanted to fall down, he couldn't even fall." Joe Louis beat Max Schmelling and MAx Baer,2 heavyweight champions! Louis beat 7 #1 rated HW contenders in his time. Lennox Lewis struggled with the corpse of Mike Tyson. Please,Lummox Lewis is the only supposed ATG HW who was knocked out twice in his prime by lesser fighters! Lummox is a con man.
No It's just that,Lummox Lewis was a shameful Vulture who has maybe only 2 wins over decent prime opponents.
Not really. He beat him pretty clean both times. The first more cleanly than the second, but they are both clear iwns. Can you produce three ringside reports that say that Holyfield won? As your so good with the links and all. Because most people thought Lewis won it. No, that's what suits your weird, skewered world view which, it seems, is completely defined by producing criteria which will low-ball Lewis. Louis is great because of the fighters he beat during that reign. If he only fought unranked fighters he would today be reviled as a propped champion. It was the Bum of the Month club that made Louis unquestionably great. I think Lewis's opponents wipe the floor with Louis's. you ****ing troll Magni, who sparred with Lewis, ranked it as the second best jab he was ever in with, better than Holyfield, Foreman and Bowe. It was also Foreman who rated Lewis's jabbing performance against Tua "a masterlcass." But according to you, somehow more expert, it was a "glorified range finder". ****ing troll. Really? You like quoting him, do you? Here he is on Holyfield and Tyson v Lewis: I think he would have beaten both. I was fortunate enough to know Mike since he was probably about 13 or 14 when I saw him in the Junior Olympics. But what you have to remember about Mike Tyson, to me hes one of the fighters I respect so much for what he did for being a small man, because he was still a small heavyweight. The biggest thing he had was his speed and intensity over a lot of big guys, when they were not prepared or well enough coordinated to deal with that. But the big guys who were not afraid of Mike and had any boxing skills, he had a problem with because Mike was a little guy. What he accomplished was phenomenal, but if you look at his historyQuick Tillis, Mitch Green, a fighter that I was managing at the time Tony Tucker, Bonecrusher Smith. All of those big guys who were not afraid of Mike, and even Tony Tucker was giving him a hell of a fight until Tonys daddy, who was in the corner, came up and told him to slow down because Mike was dangerous. But that doesn't count no doubt Yeah! He beat two HW champions! But kid, both those HW champions were way, way past prime. Nobody in Classic even argues that point. Louis may be #1 all time (#2 for me) but if Lewis had beaten shot Baer and worn Schmeling you'd be in this thread telling us how awful they are no he didn't struggle with Mike Tyson you ****ing dummy. He won every round bar the first which was arguable. Mike was ranked #2 in the world at the time and i bet i'd pick him over more than half of Joe Louis's opponents on the night he met Lewis. I want you to know that I consider you to pathetic to ban. I want you to know that.
