I was just about to make this thread, so true though, it almost made my stomach cringe that people were calling Cotto a future HOF all of a sudden after, getting his ass whipped by Floyd in a one sided beating, it is what it is though. I was rooting for Cotto this time, his legacy needed this win, and he came up short


I'm still scratching my head on what Cotto was thinking fighting a tall rangy undeafeated south paw, when he knows he posses no right hand

No, losing to Trout has no bearing on his hall of fame status, which he attained prior to the loss. It's widely accepted that Cotto fell a ways short of being one of history's greats, but he was an amateur stand-out, put together a very nice resume (one of the best of the last decade) spanning three weight divisions, showed grit and wonderful heart to go along with his fan-friendly skillful style, was one of the biggest draws in the sport for the better part of the decade, and a Madison Square Garden legend to boot.

Even if he loses a few more against sub-par competition - he's past it, anyways - and will get into Canastota. It'll definitely be well deserved.

I don't know about Cotto, he's hard to read, and his career has been hard to read, he gets gift from Clottley and Mosley, and needed fouls to beat Judah, but he has these strches were he's a different fighter, like the first 4 rounds of Pacquaio fight, and rounds 6 & 8 of the Mayweather fight. I want to like him, he seems like a genuine dude, but he flips the coin and acts like a chump when he gets his ass whipped. you never know what you gonna get with Cotto

 

Clottey and Mosley weren't gifts. They were legitimately close fights that could've gone either way. Cotto could've easily won 6 rounds off of inactive Clottey, which would've given him the first by a point - and many had it this way. Many also had Cotto beating Mosley about 7-5ish. I'd say most did, actually.

With regard to him being a different fighter in stretches, I think that boils down to his stamina and durability. I think he knows he's not too great in either category, so he fights accordingly and retreats when he feels it's necessary for his survival. Stamina is one of the big things that held him back, among others of course.

 

If losses erase wins then they're going to start removing them too. Don't let your knees jerk too harshly. They'll pop. You'll get the arthritis.

 

Maybe gifts were harsh words on my part, I had the Mosley fight 7-5 for Cotto too LMAO, Im just upset with Cotto right now, every time I root for him he gets his ass whipped, I just cant understand his train of thinking all around, in the ring and out


Even on saturday, Trout was a sitting duck for the right and even stunned him once with it, but he rathers throws out of position left hooks, when he was right in distance to land that right plenty of times
