Who could replace Lee Purdy ?

Feel for Eddie he's been unlucky here, A lovely card has fallen apart but it's still a tidy card. Just need a decent replacement for Purdy.

 

I'd have to go and dig it up, but I'm pretty sure I've enjoyed cards by both promoters for different reasons. Please tell me exactly what Hearn has done that merit such praise?

 

Feel he has matched his fighters both better and tougher.

 

I have to agree here.

I have no particular axe to grind with any individual promoter because they all have done both good and bad.

I'm not bashing Eddie and I'm not praising FW; I grant you that Matchroom have put on some good bills in the last couple of years, but FW has put on a fair few pretty great ones over the past two decades.

I like what Eddie appears to be doing but I really don't get this 'breath of fresh air' thinking; he is not doing anything we haven't really seen before.

They are bioth as bad and as good as each other as far as I am concerned

 

Really? Brook has stepped up a little recently, but it's not like Eddie's putting him in tough, compelling fights.

Frampton has been matched well, IMO.

Bellew fought Miranda, but other than that he's fought guys equal or lesser to those he fought with Frank.

Burns has mixed underwhelming guys and competitive bouts - Mitchell and Katsidis.

He's matched Chisora incredibly tough and secured him a fight against two of the top three heavyweights in the world, and a fight with the number 1 heavy in the UK.

I think they're on a par, honestly. They mix fodder with a decent challenge here and there. Good cards, bad cards.

 

In regards to Brook they went the mandatory route and secured a fight against a tough opponent in Alexander, in America as well.

Purdy was matched well against Jones, shame it fell through.

Barker fought the best middleweight in the world last time out.

Bellew admittedly should be further on but he is being kept active.

Framptons level seems to increase every time he's out.

Froch had a stay busy fight after a huge fight against unbeaten Bute.

But the main point was cards in general from top to bottom, Think Hearn generally puts on more intriguing fights across the board.

Matchroom cards have been far better then Frank's, FW shows have no depth to the bill, just a average main event followed by prospects vs journeymen.

I know you say you have nothing against Hearn but I think thats bollocks, you blame Hearn for the Sky monopoly, when in fact it's Sky's fault.

I have enjoyed Hearn cards and Frank's cards. There's nothing to make my mind up about. I just don't play favourites with promoters and look at the bills as a whole.

Also, I blame Hearn for the Sky monopoly? Well, it wasn't like Sky just pitched up and said, "Oi, Barry, want to take over all the boxing on Sky? We've a little too much choice right now."

Sky and Matchroom are to blame for that equally, obviously. I wouldn't say Eddie's delivered anything remarkable. He's gotten one big fight for Carl Froch and one for Audley Harrison (and make no mistake, Eddie IS responsible for Sky pushing for that - no one took it seriously until the Hearns started putting it about in the press).

That's actually it. That's the sum total of his BIG fights. The rest has been mediocre domestic/euro-level fare. I'd argue that his cards are strikingly like Frank cards - looks at the last Brook fight. Shocking "main" supported by modern classics like McDonnell-Zamora and Anderson-Reid.

Look, it's simple: I've not seen Hearn mounting the sort of stacked cards that Don King did in the late 80s and early 90s. Until he does that I wish people would stop proclaiming him the saviour of British boxing.

 

You said Matchroom cards are mediocre, then you say you enjoy them? You do need to make your mind up.

Sky made the decision to give Hearn the monopoly for putting on better cards then the rest of they're promoters, so how is that Hearns fault?

As for the Audley/Haye fight..he promoted Harrison and did his job..getting his fighter the biggest possible fight, he delivered. Your clearly still fuming that you wasted £15.

Also you say FW and Matchroom cards are similar, Reid/Anderson and Mcdonnell/Zamora weren't great fights but they are better then prospect vs journeyman.

Nobody is saying he's the saviour of British Boxing, but he's putting on better cards then any other of the big promoters domestically.

 

The way Eddie's dealing with this card shows his workrate to impress fans. Getting Maxwell in to face Ochieng is a nice move, loving the Ryder vs O'Kane battle and if he can get a decent test for Carson Jones then he will win more ratings from me.

I've got nothing bad to say about the guy he seems a hard working and decent promoter producing very well run shows and cards are pretty decent and will hopefully get better in time as his stable step up.

 

I'd not complain at Dale Miles a big LWW and would still be a size at WW and digs decently and comes to fight. Probably won't happen but just a shout..

 

He's a very approachable guy, from what I hear he will always reply to you on twitter.

Even though his 8th Dec bill has fallen apart a bit he's still got Ochieng in with Maxwell and Ryder/O'Kane is a good competitive fight.

Like a fellow poster said with Franks cards you get prospect/journeyman, even Hennessy is matching his fighters better.

It is three **** cards in a row though for Hearn now.

Brook v Saldivia was more VVarren than VVarren himself.
Froch v Mack was quintessential Calzaghe WBO fare.
This Xmas ******* isn't a bad show for a smallish place. I wouldn't buy a ticket now though.
