Just watched this for the first time perhaps since watching it live. I'd forgotten that Grant actually landed a couple of decent shots early. Lennox sure delivered some good uppercuts when the situation called for them.

HBO were Biased as **** before that fight too, building up Grant as the new great American champ

I remember George Foreman belting out something like "Let's see How Lewis likes this guy, let's see how lewis likes a guy bigger than he is, let's see how lewis likes this now"

and then grant got ktfo in hilarious fashion

Love this one and the Briggs fight, both fun to watch.

Nope, He defo was not intended to be food for Lennox.
HBO went full force w/Grant, This was a major bust for them.

i remember golota beating grant round after round until golota went down, and then quit.
then grant got a title shot, and was like "****, good luck against the champ." then he was history

Grant may not have amounted to much in the grand scheme of things, but he was hardly a nobody at that time. He was highly regarded, and was viewed by the majority as the most deserving challenger to Lewis after Lennox had twice bested Holyfield.

Grant was coming off a courageous effort in his come from behind win against Golota. Sure, Golota was a head case, and true, you can say Grant was exposed in that fight.

Even still, there was not a more deserving challenge out there. The fact Lewis was stripped for not facing Ruiz by the WBA was just sad, especially immediately after unification.

The only other guy you can make a case for was Tua.

Grant was not perceived as a nobody when he challenged Lewis.

Watching that fight now. Grant had Golota pretty badly hurt at the end of the 5th. I hadn't remembered that, either.

Grant had beaten a lot of good fighters looked very good against hard-punching David Izon and I think KOd Obed Sullivan but couldn't put Savarese away. He had problems with Golota but that was a top contender at that time and he did dig deep to win.

HBO hyped him up but Grant's team should have known. They all cashed out.
