Foreman's chin was atrocious at that range. Now, watch the bombs he takes from Cooney, Jameson and Martin in the 250-260 range. A completely different guy.

George's chin was always pretty solid.

    Depends on the round limit.

Let's go for the old traditional limit of fifteen.

Then I reckon take 10 pounds off every significant heavyweight since Holmes.

Tyson was probably bang on his ideal weight but the rest could afford to lose something I reckon.

I reckon you're dead right ! Lennox Lewis always looked like he could have weighed a few pounds less than he did at times. To name but one.

This is certainly true for his second career. Do you think this may have had anything to do with Steward's take on Lennox's chin after the McCall fight??

Also what would you consider Lennox's best weight? I don't think he would have been as effective with Steward if he was the athletic specimen of 225-230 earlier in his career. I certainly think the extra 10-15 pounds appeared to give Lewis a huge advantage in terms of strength compared to any man he got in the ring with.

240 lbs would have been right for Lennox, imo.

For twelve rounds the 240 weights are fine as he proved in his career. Leas rounds so make the shots count more by having that extra bulk behind them.

But to maintain that for am extra 3 rounds (25% increase) you need to be a bit leaner I think.

For twelve round id say bung a stone on every significant heavyweight before Tyson.

    ALL fights of ALL champ
plus ALL fights of ALL the champs' opponents

which adds up to approximately 70000 unique fights

it turns out that approximately 1600 fights (= 2%) were 13+ rounders.

15 rounders were rare anyway and most never had to train for them.

I always liked Holmes when he was at the 207 weight area. Later he still could use his jab and pick guys apart and land his nice right, but at 207 he was so fluid.

They were rare because it was the championship limit. Only the best would compete there and I'm saying its better for a fighter to be leaner when the fight limit is 15 rounds.
