There was always huge money in Jones's fights on HBO. Jones was just never keen on sharing the revenue when HBO wouldn't mind paying to see Jones clown lightweights instead of real challengers.
Telesco was the replacement for Rochi who was considered a real challenge ,guess Virgill Hill wasn't a real challenge either huh?
Oh I was mainly referring to Jones days at SMW. At LHW it has already been made clear in another thread that Jones didn't want to fight the linear champion at his home and told HBO not to ask him any questions about DM because the fight would never happen.
Some good names listed here, throw Michael Nunn in there as well, a tall rangy southpaw who Jones wanted nothing to do with. Jones also ducked a follow up test to determine what banned anabolic steroids were in his system after he was caught the first time
Like I said, its unfortunate the interview i mentioned is no longer on youtube... Roy called out several of those fighters and said were offered contracts.. HBO backed what Roy said. Do you really blame Roy for ducking all of those fighters?
At super middle did he even have the HBO contract ? And Jones became undisputed LHW champ ,that held held more water than that linear title as we would later learn as the years went on.
Like you say, he only had 6 fights. He embarrassed the best fighter at 168, knew he wouldn't be able to unify the division, so he hung around for just a little while and then moved up. Out of your list you can exclude, Benn, Eubank and Liles straight away, for reasons already discussed. What was Collins doing between 94-96? He beat a faded Eubank for the WBO. Go and look at who they all fought between 94-96. Half of them didn't do anything to get a fight with Roy.
That would probably be too harsh, but it surely would have been nice to see Liles, Nunn, Collins, Benn, Eubank or Littles on his SMW resume. As it is he got Toney and nothing else, which is very poor given the competors in the division and the timeframe he was there.
Excuses, excuses, excuses. Jones DID have time to fight Pazienza. Boy did he miss out on having a great resume.
Why are you talking bollocks, when me and you went at this for ages just the other week? You have been shown PROOF of Peter Kohl not being available to discuss terms, and that they turned down the chance of a double header. I've shown Knockout the video of Roy saying that DM turned down $5M from HBO, and giving valid reasons why he didn't want to go to Germany. What more do you want??
He certainly was. At the very least you have to admit that he was undisputed after he beat Tarver.. Or do you consider Gonzalez the champ?

Please explain how they are excuses? Chris Eubank has ADMITTED that he didn't chase the big fights, and he was content doing what he was doing, which was fighting at home on Sky. So that isn't an excuse. Between 94-96 a Eubank fight was not viable. Roy WANTED a one fight deal only to fight Benn. Don King wanted to tie him into a three fight deal, and Roy wouldn't agree. Neither would back down, and Benn declined quickly after his fight with Gerald. Frankie Liles was also a Don King fighter. These are not excuses! Why did Collins deserve a shot at Roy between 94-96 for beating Eubank twice? He could have had a great resume? He's already got one. Put Roy's resume up against anyone you want, that fought around the same time from 168-175 You can pick anyone's? Benn's, Eubank's, Joe's, DM's, Collins's etc. Roy will come out on top.
