I like Barrera, BUT

BArrera had a war with Mckinney that made me a fan. A prime mckinney that had an iron chin. Morales could have never beat mckinney or even Hamed. Barrera was past his prime even when he first fought Pacquiao, and in the second one made all the right adjustments but just could no longer pull the trigger. Barrera is underated.

 

He did, by getting floored on 4 occassions.

 

Pacman fighting style chance alot since he fought DLH and onward. He's not always go toe to toe like he usually did in lower weight class.

Morales could have won the trilogy but its quite clear he couldnt held his rage everytime he fought Barerra and while Barrera fought smartly in the third match.

No, overall resume including Pac fights, longevity, titles won at different weight divisions, and boxing ability.

Everyone wants to forget it, he cried like a little ***** and blamed GBP for not working it so that he "the name" would get the decision.

......that in conjunction with Pacquiao wanting to wait for Marquez to get older landed MAB an undeserved chance at Pacquiao, the results speak for themselves.

 

Resume :huhOver Barrera and Morales :-( Outside of the Pacquio fights what else does he have ..Chris John ? Juan Diaz ?Joel Casamayor past his best ?


And boxing wise imo he's a few notches below those guys..As far as titles I think all of them are well accomplished so there is really no arguments there..

 

The thing is you can't just discard three close fights (if not 3 unofficial wins vs Pacquiao at different weights), also he beat Diaz, Katsidis, and Casamayor at lightweight...Rocky Juarez and Barrera at jr lightweight, Orlando Salido is a solid win at featherweight.

In terms of boxing ability (technique, ring generalship, counter-punching, defense), I disagree with you...if anything Barrera and Morales are a few notches below Marquez.

You really think he has a better resume than EM and Barrera ?


The Manny Pacquio fights is what really keeps him in the conversation with these 2 but but prior to his fight with Manny he wasn't even a blip on the radar when those two were running things ..


And funny but an old Barrera imo beat Marquez yet you think JMM is above these guys in boxing ability ..Not even close ..

 

Actually Marquez was on the radar with boxing journalist who followed the sport.
While MAB and Morales fought eachouther and Naseem Hamed petitioned the sanctioning bodies to bypass his mandatory JMM, boxing journalist often wrote that JMM may be better than all of them at 126 lbs, so he was by no mean a "nobody" to those that followed the sport closely back then.


Funny, but most posters here who's favorite is MAB cant seem to have the stomach to say MAB beat JMM.
I know of at least a couple of posters in this very forum who are huge MAB fans who may have shed a tear on the night, but dont dare have the audacity to say MAB beat JMM when they know deep down that was'nt the case.

You however have audacity up the ying yang!

 

Uh MAB beat JMM I think JMM dodeged a bullet with the point deduction ..And that was a past his best Barrera ..There is no tears shed JMM knows he should have lost ..And what Naseem did is his business JMM wasn't doing himself any favors by being inconsistant coming up while Morales and Barrera were at the top of their game ..And what journalist wrote that he may be better than all of them ? That's funny what did he do to prove that ?Who did he beat ? Really ..I'm always curious as to see who actually said that ..

 

If you did'nt live the era as a boxing fan, I cant help you.
Its common knowleadge that the top fighters at featherweight avoided Marquez.

Yes and Marquez's skill level is superior.

 

Divac, I've missed you man. It's not good enough for you to simply give JMM credit for defeating the fighters he actually beat, you go that step further and accuse everyone who didn't sign to fight him as being afraid. It's hilarious. Trust me, nobody at 126lbs was losing sleep at the thought of stepping in the ring with the man who lost to Freddie Norwood.
