This trend of unworthy/unproven contenders getting shots at the title because it will "sell" is a bad trend for the UFC's credibility. They used to always say it is the best fighting the best. Well is it ?
diaz just beat the **** out of bj penn and "lost" a coinflip to the interim champ. if you dont think diaz deserves to be there youve got rocks in your head.
I understand people being excited about Hendricks, and I wouldn't object to him getting a shot, but how is he considered to be ahead of Diaz? Condit barely edged out Diaz in their bout, and Condit got elevated to the top of the division. Wouldn't this arguably leave Diaz as the next person in line? Diaz matches up better, stylistically, than Hendricks does. GSP is better at every technical aspect of the game than Hendricks is. Hendricks is only interesting because he hits hard enough to knock Pierre out. Which is intriguing because it means that every second the fight is standing, GSP is in constant danger. Because of his jab, and the fact that he can kick, I'll say GSP is even with Diaz standing skill wise; but I would give Diaz the advantage if the fight stays standing for long periods. GSP has way better wrestling, but I don't know if he is equal with Diaz in terms of bjj.
Who exactly has Diaz beaten over the last 2 or 3 years to warrant a title ? It's laughable he's getting the shot.
who had overeem beaten?? its not just huge names its consistency that gets diaz a shot plus the fact hed rolled some pretty solid guys sometimes at their own game. lets look at it realistically he was strikeforce champion he hadnt lost fair and square since 06 hed just FLOGGED penn you could argue he beat condit who is now clearly the divisions #2 what more can you ask of the guy?
I'm a Diaz fan myself and you clearly are as well but Hendricks has done far far more to deserve the title shot.
Yeah, Diaz is not a bad opponent - he's marketable, skills are completely legit and it's a genuine grudge match because GSP legitimately hates him and wants to beat his ass. But Hendricks rightfully shouldered past him in the queue. He earned his shot in the cage, fair and square. :-( :hat
I don't know how you can believe what you are saying....... CC outclassed Nick Diaz, outlanded him 159 to 117, and controlled the pace of the fight. My man Johny Hendricks has two knockouts in less than a minute and a victory against a top WW over the past year. Nick Diaz has been on his ASS for the better part of the year, and if this comes off it proves that The UFC is more about Sports Entertainment than competition. Just like The WWE, maybe they are right about The Promotion.
This isn't as big of a travesty to me as Jones/Chael. Diaz/GSP should have already fought, we are just seeing it later than expected. Yeah, he has lost since they were first scheduled, but he wasn't horrifically beaten or anything. Plus, the match is actually interesting. Plus, GSP asking for an opponent for personal reasons is not something we see often. I don't think we will see him phone in a performance in this one. Throw Hendricks in there with Ellenberger in the meantime.
That is about the worst statement I've read all day, Ellenberger got punched out by Kampmann this past Summer, and Kampmann got his head bounced off the canvas by Johny Hendricks. Knockout of the Night my friend, I got a feeling you forgot all about Kampmann v Ellenberger:!:
And while you and many others could probably do that, there are at least as many who could argue quite easily that Diaz is a much easier fight.
