So that is your way of saying that Jones ducked Liles. I must admit that you surprise me. In the earlier debate we had, you would move an inch. In this thread you are now saying that Jones ducked both Nunn and Liles.
Really? LMAO. As I recall it Nunn was the no. 1 contender, but Jones wanted the easy Pazman because he had the name and a feel good story.
If Jones had fought Nunn and beat him, he'd get the exact same **** he gets now for beating McCallum when he did.
No I'm saying Roy wouldn't have been desperate to fight him, because he was a bad style match up. That doesn't mean Roy ducked him. I've seen a video of Frankie saying that he wanted Roy, but I've also seen a video of Larry Merchant saying that Frankie had turned down a big offer to fight Roy, although he doesn't discuss the details. I also know than Stan Levin was very wary of King, and we know that King wanted to tie Roy into a three fight contract for Benn. I think it's safe to assume, that around the same time, he also would have wanted options on Roy after Liles, if Roy had've pursued the fight. I'm not saying Roy didn't duck anyone, I'm highlighting the fact that your list is a joke! I don't think Roy ducked Liles out of fear of losing to him, but I don't think he'd have been desperate for the fight. We know he also messed Collins about, and he definitely ducked/dismissed Micheal Nunn. But you're throwing names like Cordorba around, and it's a joke!
:good All jokes aside, I agree with vivanazvegas that on ability Jones is top 10 all time, but on achievement where would you rank him?
I'm not saying Paz was bigger than Nunn. I mean he was bigger than Cordorba and Van Horn etc. Nunn was mandatory at 175. You said Roy fought Paz rather than Nunn, but you're getting mixed up with dates. When Roy fought Paz and the rest at 168, Nunn, apart from just two fights, was fighting between 175-195. So a fight wasn't really viable at that time was it?
Did you know that Liles easily defeated Jones in the AM's and nearly KO'ed him? Jones also lost to McClellan BTW but thats just bonus info. Since Liles was such a bad styles matchup its surely good for Jones that they never fought in the pros. But hey. Its not a duck. Jones just didn't want to fight him right? Oh and my list is not a joke. Its the truth. You just dont happen to like it.
Touche. I was going by memory on Nunn. He lost to Liles before the paz fight. He should have fought Nunn before Paz.
Jones wins the eyeball test 100% of the time. His resume, deserves to be questioned. I don't have a definitive top 50 in achievement, but know I couldn't place Jones in it. I'd be hard pressed to put him in my top 100 I'd imagine.
I don't have a list either, I leave that to people who know far more than me. On achievement though, I'd put Jones between the 20-35 range for sure, wins over HOF'ers in Hopkins and Toney, beat other top guys like Hill, Johnson, Tarver and wins over good fighters like Malinga, Tate, Harding, Griffin then he moved up to HW and won a title there. Of all the guys that Jones didn't face for whatever reason, I'd have loved to see him fight a prime Nigel Benn, that would have been explosive!
Here is Benn more or less admitting that its politics between promoters that meant his fight with Jones never happened. Also saying how he didnt mind being no.2 to Roy Jones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgcl9qLqX5I
What reason would Roy have for ducking ANYBODY in his prime? He was #1 P4P. I see Dariusz Michalczewski thrown around a lot but lets be realistic, if they fought Roy would've iced him by the mid rounds
I think achievement for Roy is a bit of a let down on his ability.. Ability is top 10 i would say for sure, but achievement just is not up there, but still he did accomplish great things, with belts from MW to HW, and did dominate some future HOF'ers.. but there have been so many great fighters, and some of them did more than Roy with less ability. Any where from 25-45, i wouldn't argue with too much... I think adding DM and Benn to his resume would have boosted him another 10 or 15 spots, and I would have picked him over both.
