Off of a stay busy affair in april and the win last night? I say yes. The historical significance of this ATG win over Pac puts him ahead of all the other fighters this year.

Its the win and KO of the year, depends if you want to pick somebody like Donaire or Garcia who have had a few fights. I wouldn't argue too much either way

I would still have Viloria and Donaire over him.

He wins KO of the Year thats for sure.

Yes, the fight of the year!

Don't think he was up for the fighter of the year award? Garcia may take that one.

Ahhhhh man, I dunno! I thought Donaire was nailed on for me there was no other choice but the manner of JMM's victory has made me think twice. It's difficult though because when people said FOTY should be Ward I was adamant you can't be FOTY with 1 win. Marquez has only really had 1 win because Fedchenko is nobody important.

    KO of the year

1 fight is too little to be fighter of the year. You should be dominant all year to qualify ie Donaire

Why not? It's not like boxers fight 80 times a year. One very special and spectacular win should at least put JMM up there with the leading candidates. Pac has more talent than Vazquez, Mathebula, Nishioka, and Arce all put together. If Donaire slayed 4 small dragons then JMM just iced Godzilla.

Its probably a lock for KO of the year? Fight of the year, nah the Rios-Alvarado wins that.

Edit: fighter of the year? He's definitely close to the top on that one.

I would say a definite no to him being fighter of the year. Either Garcia, Donaire, Viloria, etc should get the nod here. 3 good wins or 2 excellent wins in a year should be the minimum required to seal the accolade. The award should be reserved for active boxers who take on a variety of quality opposition in my opinion.

Yeah exactly, that's why I said he's made me think twice. It was probably just that Ward's win over Dawson wasn't good enough to win it with 1 fight. Marquez's victory is like a once in a decade victory special kind of victory that may well have changed my mind.

Didn't George Foreman share fighter of the year award with Roy Jones Jr. for 1994. And George only had 1 fight that year K.O.'ing Michael Moorer, just as Marquez K.O.'d pac.
