Possibly the most storied arch in modern boxing history. From pure-boxer, to box-puncher to knockout artist in pursuit of one thing and then one man.
Totally agree. Marquez actually looked like he was on the verge of being stopped his self till Pacquiao got overexcited and bam, it was over. This happens all the time in boxing.
Many fans don't understand what they saw Saturday. JMM had already beat Pac by points, he knew the judges would NEVER give him the fight. Pac possibly looked good/better because Marquez was more stationary and he was allowing Pac to get very close so that he can find an opening and KO Pacquiao. JMM wasn't going to try to win rounds by out manuevering Pac like in the previous fights, he was going to knock him the **** out, and he did. JMM is a master boxer, and is superior to Pac.
Exactly, Marquez is smart with his decline, he knew his limitations, he was not in this fight for the long haul, he was either going to be KO'd or Pac was going to be KO'd, and look at the results.
Most casuals and some big fans won't understand this.. They look at JMM's fight plan in the simple ways that Pac fights... One way... What they fail to realize is that JMM is extremely intelligent and crafty, this time he had a completely different plan and he executed it perfectly... he was not there to outpoint Pac... Not letting the judges rob him again.
I agree, he was showing his age after all those tough battles he's had in the past. I think it's time for him to hang them up, leave the sport while you are on top, most boxers can't say that.
Yep, and he finally got what he has always wanted. I can't even imagine how happy Juan must be feeling....All that hard work for many years finally paying off.
That's because YDKSAB. JMM was chasing Pac seconds before the KO, and he stooped, took a step back and allowed Pac to wrecklessly jump in, and This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected JMM is a ****ing master! a G! Superior to pac. :deal This content is protected This content is protected
Whilst much of this is true, a lot of what Marquez failed at was to fundamental to be "a part of the plan". You don't let yourself be hit as a part of the plan. Marquez has fought Pacquiao for spells in all three fights just as aggressively as he fought him on Saturday night and round 1 fight 1 aside, he never had a disaster like this in terms of how easy he was to hit. Marquez was still moving to the backfoot for the most part. The fact that he wasn't slipping more of those shots (he was hit at a rate close to 50%) is very very worrying and certainly wasn't anything to do with pursuit of a KO. Nor was the leaden way he threw punches at time. Leaden in comparison to himself even a couple of years back, you understand. He still snapped out some great combos and punches, especially right after he dropped Pac the first time. Worrying signs of slippage IMO and likely partly related to the gains in muscle.
