Whenever I see Haye try and finish a guy off it reminds me of the first punches in this.... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwy4nT16VAk[/ame] Bellew is pretty **** at finishing too. Sprinting across the ring like Usain Bolt if he decks someone. The rugby tackle of Ovil McKenzie was decent in the first fight though.
That's a bit harsh, he gets very sloppy in his work when he go's for the KO but his natural power and the likely hood of him landing a big punch is quite high, imo?
Glad this thread has been bumped. I made a few semi-detailed posts somewhere earlier, hoping I'll have time to make a few more soon.
Keys to finishing if i had a man on way out of there.. -Focus (A hurt man is a dangerous man) -Sharp Footwork to avoid clinching that wastes valuable time and also edge into through ranges and create angles for shots. -Feints to keep the hurt fighter thinking and open up target areas. -Changing Levels. You must vary your attacks down stairs and up. -Combinations: SNM I don't see enough fighters nowadays fight from the waist up, it's all legs or hands. Drop the body side and shoot up jab or corkscrew uppercut like JMM. Plus open up angle for right hand over top. Fighters are to stiff, the angles don't always have to come from the feet you can open up shots within the pocket with a dip of the knees. How many times nowadays do we see fighters get clung onto by the hurt fighter?. Wasting valuable seconds cos you didn't fancy shifting feet out of way.
Natural Punchers are a dying breed, Its been this way for a while now, and when you do get power-punchers nowadays their overall boxing skill don't allow them to use it at full effect.
Yep i think when i look back on old fights the guys mentality was more savage even back in 90's. The mentality and willingness to let go of big punches and time them and throw them properly and punch through is missing with a lot of guys nowadays.
rios and martinez are good finishers, groves and matthyse are turning into good finishers and garcia is good.refs and corners are quicker to stop fights so we see less brutal finishes plus the modern stigmata of losing makes fighters less risky
What do you think of Broner as a finisher, fellas? Looks to be one of the better ones already in the sport.
Broners good he mixes well, digs to the body and can lead and draw leads to counter. Classier of the world champions around at present as you say..
I think being a big puncher is not a prerequisite to being a good finisher. That's why Broner really impresses me when he's finishing. He's not really a massive puncher but he smells blood and makes the right choices. Great finishers push fighters over the brink. They smell blood and rarely let men off the hook. Even when their opponents aren't critically hurt they have an inate sense of the circumstances and they take care of business. Some guys will have their man hurt and not even realise it.
