He fought once in 2012. After Ishida, he was scheduled to defend against Darren Barker. An injury sidelined Barker. Then in the summer he was supposed to unify with Golovkin - but ruptured a disc in his back. After resting the entire second half of the year (functionally remaining inactive for two-thirds), he's finally got a tentative return penciled in for March 2nd on HBO somewhere in the USA. That's a 10-month layoff. Don't expect anyone too heavy, maybe a lateral step from Ishida. Maybe a Giovanni Lorenzo type? Later in 2013, however - there are several juicy possibilities. - Reclaim his WBO middleweight title from strip beneficiary Kid Chocolate. - Reschedule and finally settle business with Barker. - Reschedule and finally settle business with Golovkin. - Rematch with Danny Jacobs, who's keeping a very active schedule (due to box on a Showtime triple-header February 9th, which makes for three outings in a little over three months) I'll gladly take any of those. Anything except warming the bench.
I'm curious to see where he goes, i wanted a Geale fight when they had belts Pirog just kind of fell off the horse a little, i like the guy but he is starting to become a mystery i wanna see him take a big fight in the next yr
In this video Pirog is talking about March 2nd on HBO. He said that his opponent will probably be Golovkin. But I think it's not gonna happen because Golovkin will have only 42 days to prepare for this fight. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL7nnJu2YY0&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
Wishful thinking on his part? :think If there was so much as a verbal agreement of any kind I'm sure the news would've spread like wildfire.
yes, it's just a wish. He said that they are trying to negotiate with Golovkin team, it also needs HBO approval.... I wouldn't consider his words serious. Golovkin will have a short period of time until March 2nd. Pirog talks impossible things.
Respect Dimitry though I like Martinez/Golovkin more he's a tough russian. Been wondering why he hasn't able to land big fight ever since that Huge upset over jacobs.Think HBO U.S. screwing him for ending one of their fighters. Then again I don't know.Golovkin-Pirog is one of many intriguing fights can be made 2013 after Priog is back in the ring.Has to get back in the ring like Gamboa did asap though if he's seriously still trying to compete with the elites like Martinez/Golovkin ect.I'd like to see him vs Macklin,Lee or Chavez jr before he gets a cracks at Golovkin which should be an epic fight. This guy is no overrated euro fighter like bute.
Pirog vs. Ndam? If none of the big name guys like Golovkin, Geale, Sturm, Chavez Jr, or Sergio, this showdown in Europe would be an excellent one. Stylistically, I'd rather see it over Pirog vs. Quillin.
Well Barker looked really good last weekend, so maybe Pirog should persue that match again. Not too tough and not too easy for a come back fight.
There should be no problem getting approval for this fight. Maybe not for March 2 but they'll have no problem with the matchup.
Pirog's recent career trajectory reminds me of the spoken moral of A Bronx Tale. His style requires youthfulness and activity, hopefully he stays busy next year. Id like to see a tuneup followed by Taylor.
Why the hell would you like to see him in with a completely shot fighter who's surely going to be stopped by Quillin? Fernando Guerrero would be a fight HBO would probably accept. That would be a good comeback fight for the Russian.
If he's willing to fight Golovkin then he's not looking for a tuneup. A Barker fight seems more possible and would be a good fight for contenders to earn a shot. If HBO is willing to show him then perhaps he'll finally get the fights he should have been getting. In a perfect scenario i would like to see Barker, Quillin, then Golovkin and Pirog unify late 2013.
Darren barker was suppose to happen & is another worthy opponent for fight had forgot about him good pick.
