Nice to hear that you have watched old Golovkin fights on Youtube. Most of them are there on direct search, otherwise you can look up the date of the fight on boxrec and search German sportsTV channels. Usually there is at least a summary of the fight.

What is striking is how similar the fights develop. After establishing his jab, Golovkin steadily walks forward throwing hard shots. His opponent retreats and/or starts acting defensively, not appreciating the power. Eventually the opponent is backed into the ropes or the corner and gets hammered. First round is warmup, few of his fights are first round KOs. Second round is for accuracy with more power, in the third he is all go.

This pattern of fighting is remarkable consistent through all the Golovkin fights I have seen. The single exception was the fight with Ouma were GGG seemed to be in less than optimal shape plus really quick legs, good defense and iron chin kept Ouma in the fight. But even in this fight it only took a few rounds before the overal Golovkin-type-fight started to appear, though it did so in an inside type of fight.

There are a few fights were Golovkin has been unable to KO his opponents, the latest was the Amar Amari fight back in 2008. Here Amar Amari basically defends the whole time, jabbing GGG just stay in the fight. Amari is a really solid, muscular boxer that could take some really hard shots and stay on his feet. Take-aways from the fight are how Golovkin has improved since 2008, GGG could not figure out a way to take Amari down even when pinned on the ropes. In 2012 he had a hugely better fighter, Proksa, on the ropes and lands bombs on his ribs with laser accuracy.

Several boxing fans refers to Golovkin's lack of defense, but I have come to the conclusion that this is simply not true. His defense is simply less obvious. First of all - stance. Bent slightly forward to protect the body at all times. He does not raise his upper body or chin when hammering away with both hands at an cornered opponent. This drastically reduces the chance of being countered hard when in mid-range. Second - focus. One of the standout characteristics of GGG is that he never takes a pause during the fight. He rarely even blinks. He is able to spot which shots are dangerous and which ones he can just ignore. Third - balance. GGG is very rarely off balance. He swings hard, but he never overcommits. How many one-shot KO's has he scored? None - his matches are systematic wrecking jobs - there are no heroic mega-punches.

So based on this *ahem* slightly fan-biased analysis: what opponent could give Golovkin trouble? At MW there is only Martinez. And I predict the fight would end with Triple-G on the pound-for-pund rating.

Huge fan of Golovkin here and I cant say how far he will go and what he is gonna achieve exactly but I know what he is gonna give us fight fans, an entertaining fights, that is pretty much sure. That far I will go and say he will beat some of the other title holders(it not all :p) Geale/Quillin/Martinez.

Love his attitude. He comes to fight. He is exactly the guy middleweight division needs. Clearly talented fighter who is willing to fight them all.

I am a fan of Golovkin.. Overall he is just great to watch, he is a skilled come-forward type of boxer-puncher with devastating power. He may not have the best speed, but his timing is as good as anyone's and he can easily string big combos together, where he will do tons of damage with the right hand. Once he figures out his opponent he changes his pace and fights very aggressively.
He has some flaws, but definitely also a lot of upside, he has a lot of middleweights running scared of him for good reason.

What a great throwback to the days the General forum had knowledgeable posters. Other than Martinez, I only see Trout and Ward giving Golo a loss around the MW limit. Surely a Froch and likes at SMW could potentially beat him, but mainly because of the size advantage. Trout and Ward present a style that can keep GGG under control.

GGG is just beautiful to watch..his balance is perfection...his power is unbelievable and his ring craft is the best out there today...no one can beat this guy from 154 to 168..
    NO ONE.....without a doubt....no one...!!!!!

Golovkins not that special. He's slow but he has some traits which make him seem better than he actually is. He struggled vs an old shot Kassim Ouma and his fans made some excuses saying he was tired.

Don't get me wrong he's a good fighter but he doesn't do anything extraordinary. His fundamentals are put down brilliantly but his defense can be lacklustre at times and i believe he can lose pace as a fight goes on. If you take his power punch away from him he looks very lmited.

He isn't leaps and bounds better than the euro level talent on offer in the middleweight division.
