I want to see his Chin tested before I can come to a conclusion on him. Looks to have savage power and good handspeed. What matters though is the Chin.
It's a level below world level competition on the whole. Only two fighters are really world level operators. Martinez and Golovkin. If you look at the talent on offer none of them are exceptional outside of Martinez. Nobody outside of Martinez has proved they're world level operators and have proved they're world championship material yet. Golovkin is a good fighter but who has he beat yet? The list i mentioned tells the story. Golovkin isn't leaps and bounds better than the euro level competition but he is better by a margin. The division itself is very mediocre with no real exceptional talents to be seen in the division. I think only Martinez and Golovkin are worth noting as world level talent. It's a very beatable division. There's no real challenge for the top two but there's a chance one can score the upset.
Well - here is my list. 1. Gennady Golovkin - future p4p top 5 or better 2. Sergio Martinez - ranked no.4 in the p4p, but imho is nearing retirement fast 3. Dmitry Pirog - bid, bad, ugly russian 4. Daniel Geale - best of the rest 5. Matthew Macklin - has no chance against the top three 6. Martin Murray - the St.Helens bad boy has not won me over 7. Felix Sturm - I hope he tries to take on GGG or Pirog before he exits the sport 8. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr - that he smokes pot is the best thing about him 9. Peter Quillin - will fail bad against better opponents 10. Daniel Jacobs - better than N'Jikam, Proksa, Barker, Lee etc. Otherwise I would be careful about disrespecting the MW division. SMW is not better, but has Andre Ward as a superstar. LHW and above are certainly worse. People should remember that what the MW lacks is a marketable english-speaking star with some charisma. Sexy Sergio does not speak english and reportedly avoids reporters. Many relevant MW fights have been in Germany, not on US-cable. The top talent comes from all over the world except the US. Would be perfect if Golovkin/Pirog learned to speak english, but that is maybe asking too much.
Well, he just tkoed Kerry Hope. Who beat Proksa. He did fairly well against Martinez even though he didn't throw enough.
I knew your bias would show in this post. Golovkin struggled against an old, shot Kassim Ouma and was losing the fight on the scorecards until he tkoed Ouma. Daniel Jacobs? The guy who got knocked out by Pirog. He was all hype. He's trying to make strides now with his career but he is no better than the likes of Barker or Macklin. This is your bias showing again. I don't understand why you rate Pirog so high. He's looked levels below Martinez when he fought Ishida and Martirosyan. He never really looks exceptional. His best win was against Daniel Jacobs, who HBO thought would steamroll the unknown russian.
Jacobs is no hype, but I put him in 10th place. Pirog has not looked bad, just completely uninspiring. I believe he is better and can repeat the Jacobs upset against better opponents. On the bright side - we both rate Geale about the same. His next fight against an rated opponent will be interesting..... And I regard your soft spot for Quillin as nonsense, his boxing skills are imho low.
Kerry hope is no better than a club fighter, proska had an off night although he isn't much better ... As for the Martinez fight, sexy was only about 70% and barkers on plan was to survive rather than fight and win .. It was a joke that he was even given the fight - NO WAY he is a top 10 mw
He has Quillin a whopping two spots ahead of you. And what the hell has Jacobs ever done to warrant top 10 placement, especially post-KO? All of the guys you listed him as better than still themselves have better wins.
My list not about resume.About level 1 Dmitry Pirog (The most complicated complex of fight style) 2 sergio Martinez 3 Gennady Golovkin 4 Peter Quillin 5 Daniel Geale 6 Martin Murray 7 Darren Barker 8 Julio Cesar Chavez 9 Felix Sturm 10Proksa
