Flurrying and then moving back in straight lines then circling then repeat. Thats not good safe 'boxing' Darni.

If Khan can sort out his feet, use his left hand as a 'gear stick' so to speak to control the ring, stop jumping in with the flurries and varying the speed / power of his shots (set up punches) I think he will be ok and have some more good fights and good wins.

However thats a lot to correct at this stage of his career.

 

yeah against molina though, lets see him box clever against a live opponent, its taken ward his full boxing life to get that style he has. khan aint gonna do it over the space of a few training camps, i really dont see this ending well


im saying it now and this thread will be bumped in a few years when khan leaves hunter and goes with someone else who is gonna change him into an animal, possibly after he gets badly knocked out again

 

this new style that khan is gonna implement seems like its gonna leave his chin around longer to get smashed, running away with his gloves high up chin down is possibly the best option for that chin of his

 

of course we can right now only go off with some early camp progress, we can see in one clip Hunter tell Khan to try and use all of the ring and trying to correct his foot work around the ring.

Time can only really tell if these things can improve.

 

I dont know what the gameplan is tell you the truth, we will find out real soon.

 

If Khan loses any of his next 3 fight it could be end of his career.

 

Similar thing was being said in that Khan-Garcia build-up episode where Khan was warring with his sparring parter: 'Oh that was just filmed at the beginning of camp when Roach wasn't there, no big deal'. And we know how that turned out.

I like what Hunter's tryna' do, but there's also a big risk of Khan not being able to process and execute that style of fighting; consequently putting him further at risk. I think Hunter's trying make him comfortable fighting in the eye of the storm by having him:

• ducking under shots close up
• not pulling up
• not pulling away
• maintaining a solid, crouching stance with good balance

I know that he's attempting to keep Khan's chin out of harm's way by having him operate too close or too far away for an opponent to find him (akin to what Ward seems to have mastered), but I can't help but think how risky that is considering Khan's not that smart/durable enough to begin with.

I dont think all of the elements you mentioned can be applied in one camp to a level that they can be used straight away.

Right now its more of a mental help and rethink to his whole approach to a fight, his aim and goal in a fight, is going in there to blast this guy in 2 rounds or settle for a 12 round points win.

You if Khan can take his time things will come to him instead of him looking and exposing himself for them.

Khan can win rounds without too much risk stack up rounds that in turn force the other guy to press more and more in turn leaving openings for Khan, but only if Khan is patient.

Well this is the challenge but Hunter being the old skool type of trainer i am sure he will try and drill this into Khan.

Other thing is Khan HAS TO CHANGE he is one loss away from ending his career so i think there will be improvements to what level remains to be seen.

 

I sometimes really wonder what past trainers have been teaching Khan, I can do a better gameplan than them

 

I'm more optimistic about Khan's future than a lot of people, and I think we'll see some solid improvements to him by this time next year, that being said I don't think we'll see any real improvements to Khan in this fight, it's too much too soon... and I have a feeling Amir's going to have to take a lot of time to process Virgil's teachings. Either way it's going to be a really interesting 2013 for him, IF he gets by Molina (which he should pretty easily, lets be honest).

 

Hunter has to be Khan's last trainer, because if it doesn't work out I think he'll retire. He's set for life and has already been knocked out twice and knocked down plenty of times. Surely someone in his camp would have some sense to tell him to hang em up if he suffered another KO.




People are expecting too much here. Khan will never be a genius defensively, or be a Ward Clone, but that's not the goal anyway. Hunter has admitted it's too late to try and teach Khan to slip punches, so it sounds like he's not trying to re-build the guy from the ground up, but just improve what's already there. I'm not sure if Khan can do it, because he doesn't seem like much of a thinker or a student of boxing, but we'll see if Hunter can do something. Most here are not giving him a hope in hell. I'm a little bit more optimistic than most, but not much. I think bad habits can be broken but it will take time. Khan does have time on his side but he'll need to avoid getting sparked while he's still learning, and it seems like he has a lot of ****wits surrounding him who could make him lose focus. The talk of fighting Mayweather must stop.

 

It's hilarious hearing Khan in this when Virg says Angulo's going to pressure him and Khan's like "Yeah sure, whatever" .... 2 minutes later.. you can hear him getting absolutely bummed.
