Most entertaining heavyweight fight of the 80's?

Dokes turned the clock back for that one night ! Pity he did n't hang up his gloves after that one.

 

The majority of these fights were very closely contested but very boring,in my opinion.

As I mentioned on my earlier post,the eighties,in my opinion,were pretty thin on the ground for really good heavyweight fights.

 

I figured...most people w/ 70's agendas (ali fans) look to diminish the 80's....I think they compare pretty well over all.

 

I'm not trying to diminish anything. And yes,the seventies are certainly my favourite era for heavies,but there is no agenda. The main problem with eighties big men is that there were only two of any real signifigance while the rest of the top men were underachievers.

 

Holyfield-Dokes was the cream of that crop, I think.

It's funny to think of it now, but at the time all the magazines did nothing but complain about the dearth of excitement and talent in the heavyweight ranks. Fighters like Page, Tubbs, and Bey were poster boys for the image of the fat, unmotivated big men they were always portrayed to be. The 80's heavyweights were consistently panned.

I guess nothing is as bad as you remember.

 

I am not and never have been a major fan of HW's, and have found it to the least exciting division around for....well for as long as there has been boxing....I much prefer the ligher weights bantam- welter as my personal cream of the crop...but even they seem to have fallen on slim pickings in recent years.

 

Oh, I can't stand to watch 'em either. So much less to see with the heavies.

 

I like heavyweights with skill and talent but no discipline outside the ring.

The 80's are the best!

 

I don't know if they are the best??? But they do seem to be underated, and I think they stack up fairly well with other decades.

 

I've seen about 80% of these fights, and there are many decent and good ones, few great though

the ones in blue are the best that I've seen in my opinion

some great KO finish too, like Tate-Weaver, Page-Coetzee

I would add Thomas vs Tillis to the list, very decent scrap

 

drugs ruined the eighties heavyweights

Dokes, Tubbs, Thomas, they've all had serious addiction problems

 

What Seamus wrote, from his criterion is right, the 80s were the best.
