After 35 years Larry Merchants last fight this week

I feel the same way. He catches a lot of flack on the General forum, but for me he has always been the most compelling commentator for HBO. I'll miss him.

 

I knew this day would come but it's still a sad day. Larry Merchant is the most valuable commentator I've ever heard. He's honest, witty, and calls it like he sees it. My favorite commentating team is Lampley/Merchant/Steward. It sucks that two out of those three are gone now.

Lampley and Jones are good. I just can't stand Kellerboy.

 

Should have retired at least 10 years ago. It's been a slow but ever progressing decline that he's been on since the 2000's.

At his best, probably the greatest special comments man ever.

Al Bernstein is another who should retire asap. It's pitiful to see once great commentators descend into mediocrity, much as it is to see once great fighters become ordinary.

Why is Max Kellerman obsessed with the word "Prime" when talking about fighters?

 

Merchant was a favorite of mine too. Boxing has its share of shenanigans. Merchant would never rip his audience off or act as a spin man for HBO when they happened. For the most part his interviews were interesting.

 

I like him too, he is honest.

 

Kellerman is a jew robot and when he commentates, he reads off a Flow chart that contains key phrases like Prime, go to the body, school of hard knocks, he doesn't beat you; he beats you up, double up on the jab, etc.

 

Going to miss Larry Merchant, but would love to see him kick Floyd Mayweather Jr's ass.Now I would pay to see that!

 

A great man and irreplaceable , it wont be the same without him.

 

He will be missed , but with all do respect by the 5th or 6th round of any main event I believe hes shitfaced, plus hes a little senile now.....but thanks for almost 40 years of memories Larry...Now go have another drink.
