Check out this Kid Gavilan highlight, there are so many similarities between Kid Gavilan and SRR. The wide left hooks, the crushing straight right hand, the wide right hands to the body, and of course Kid Gavilans bolo punch that SRR must have adopted because he threw a very similar looping right uppercut of his own. What other similarities do you notice? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwbbWt7q9FE[/ame]
Kid was more of a slugger, loved to land big shots in spurts. Also was a stalker and a hell of a counter puncher, Kid really killed the body like no one else. Where Louis was more of a pure boxer, with phenomenal combinations and one of if the the best right hand in the history of the HW division The only similarities I give these two is power and and great heart.
The one small intangible like similarity that these two all time greats had going when they fought each other twice was that both guys fought nearly with the same type style of Kid Chocalate. In and old Ring Magazine, I believe it was the September 1988 issue which ironically came out just three weeks before Kid Chocalate died on August 8, 1988, Kid was qouted as saying that an at the time rising Sugar Ray Robinson had reminded him alot of himself during his own celebrated heyday as the World Featherweight Champion and that Kid Gavilan's style was not that far apart when both fighters, amatuers at the time, were training out of Kid Chocalates gym in Havana Cuba and getting ready for a championship tournament.
